Default M50 K&N Air Filter?

From the research I've done, it doesn't appear that there is a K&N air filter for the 2006 M50.

Some people have mentioned I can get some sort of air kit for it that will allow me to use the K&N air filter from another model, but I haven't seen anything about prices and such for that. The place I can get the K&N air filter from is about $70 with tax.

Do I just need to stick with the standard filter from the overpriced dealer?

You can try this K&N mod to replace the original air filter. http://www.motorcycle-journal.com/fo...tml#post240135

I don't really want to do a mod like that, looks a little too complex.

I finally heard back from the dealership, they said in their book, it shows the M50 uses part # SU-8001

When I search online, it appears that is for the C50. I had the guy at the dealership look like 5 times to make sure it is the right one for the M50.

We'll see

There is no K&N filter for an M50. The C50 filter is a different shape so it won't work either.

The mod is very easy. I did it myself and drilled some holes in the bottom of the intake. Other than the fact the air filter is a little tough to cut out not much to it. The filter is about $40.00 from K&N, and about $10.00 for the additional parts. Just make sure you have plenty of very sharp blades lying around to cut the old filter.

If you do it and cut out the box you may have to go for a FI module.

You need an air cleaner and adaptor. check the following links.

Phat Performance Parts - Great Parts, Great Prices, Great Service, Great Website

You are looking at roughly $300 but then you don't have to pay $40 for a Suzuki air filter every couple of years or so.
BUT you will also need a FI processor like a Commander PC111
You will also get more horse power from the new set up .

- I just don't really feel comfortable with hacking away at my air filter.

- So I'll end up paying $300 for the kit, $45 for filter, then $300 for the power commander, and then $15 for the cleaning kit...

Basically, I pay a 1 time payment of $650, just to be able to save $40 every couple years, and get slightly better performance...

Cost doesn't really seem to offset the benefits...

who knows if this thread is dead, but at cruisercustomizing.com, a K&N air filter for the m50 is listed. which is good cuz I'm in need of a new filter anyway.
