Nothing good could happen if I bought something like that.

Cause you gotta find out how fast it goes, every spring.

We have seasons here..........

We also don't have to worry about water. Need some water? Drill a well, there's always more where that came from.

But a high performance bike, bad things would happen.

Not only do you need to know how fast it goes every spring, every few weeks you need to find out how fast it can accelerate.

here they curtail most of the construction.

I have to say most because they just tore up part of the intersection to put in something new underground.

So, I picked up the bike and love it, aside from something horribly wrong with the engine.

It runs fine, idles, cruises, and moves out under moderate loads, but if I stab the throttle at any point I'm in trouble. The bike falls FLAT on its face and breaks up like no other. I'm told this may be due to some crap Dynojet kit on it having drilled into the sliders in the carbs?

I'm having trouble finding much info on whats up, and don't really know anything about the bike's carbs...but its for a Dave King kit on it to help fix its tendancy to lean out (works fine) and a Dynojet kit for god knows what reason (likely the reason its messing up).

Anyone have any suggestions for me? I don't know where to start, I know switching back to stock needles would probably help, and maybe filling in the holes they drilled in the sliders with JB Weld. OR could this be something completely unrealted and different.

I'm gonna try and get some pics up of it.

If they drilled out the jets to a larger size, when you tromp on it, it might be getting flooded.

Test a few times how much throttle you can give it before it does this; if it happens before half throttle, it's running pretty rich.

Eh, I can pretty much do up to 3/4 throttle without a problem. I stabbed it in 1st earlier, blew the tire out and got all squirly up until about 6k then lost power and straightened up, broke up real bad until I shifted to second and eased the throttle in.

I dunno...I'm told the slides need to be replaced first off...then some new jets and it SHOULD be back to stock specs.

Anyways, PICS!

Anyone know any places that give good deals on chroming/powdercoating? I'm not sure which is more durable, but well...everything you see in these pictures needs to either be shiny silver of black...especially the things that are rusted. So, I need to spend some $$$ somewhere.

I've got the repainting the black parts without a problem - I've got painting supplies, a good gun, and a good painter on hand. But the chroming/powdercoating is gonna be a bit more difficult...open to recommendations from anyone local or anyone that I should ship parts to, here.

Oh yeah, and where the hell can I find bolts that won't rust? Call me OCD, but those make me want to strangle someone! I know some have caps you can buy...but others don't.

Eh, the camera doesn't pick up the flaws well. The handlebar needs a good sandblasting and coat of chrome (tiny tiny tiny specks of surface rust). The two brackets near the sissy bar you can see form the pics are rusted. And just a lot of the parts are aluminum and aren't shiny at all, and look rather dull and boring. All the bolts are rusted pretty nasty-like. The rear springs and their housings have some very visable rust on them, as well. The brake pedal has some pretty nasty rust on it as well. And the kickstand. I figure by chrome plating all of 'em I can solve that problem.

Yes, I am a bit OCD.

It's called character.

you can polish off enough of the rust to make it look respectable, usually.

As far as the seat goes, you can either order an aftermarket seat to recover it, or you could just buy the material, put in extra padding and do it yourself.

Congratulations on ur new bike, looks nice, I currently ride a Magna and really love it, it has a taste of everything so it is the perfect blend (really reminds me with the German Shephard dog; not the best in protection, obedience, agility, nothing but no other dog have the combination the GS have, I am into dogs too)

Your Magna, has alot of non-stock modifications; Paint work including the motor fins, exhaust, handle bars...and I think there is more that I cant see,the exhaust might be the problem if the carbs are noted jetted right...check on that. Have fun riding ur beast.

I'm resurrecting an old thread here; hope that's ok. I came across this thread while searching/researching Magnas... It might be my next bike. I love the no-nonsense of the V-4: More power from less displacement. My current (and first) bike is a '99 Suzuki Marauder 800. Anyway, a couple questions for the Magna gurus here...

I have almost no mechanical knowledge. As far as engine work, I can change oil, filters, etc... that's about it. would I be asking for trouble buying a bike with 4 carbs? Is maintenance a pain in the butt? (Of course, assuming the bike runs great and has always been maintained properly.)

My favorite years (aesthetically) are 2nd-gen '88 models and 3rd-gen models. Are there any differences mechanically between these?

Big thanks,
Jesse

As soon as I cracked the throttle in third gear and blew the rear tire away, I was in love...well, AFTER I stopped shaking from fear, that is. Its just what I've been wanting. Maybe a LITTLE wide, but not bad. Not too heavy. And it has some balls to it - this thing is STUPID fast.

So, now I'm soon to be the proud owner of a 1995 Honda Magna. I picked it up for 2,500. Runs flayless, a little tiny bit of surface rust here and there from sitting. The seat cover is toast, so I've gotta get it recovered. But overall a nice bike.

So, aside from the fact that I'm going to kill myself on this beast, anything I should be especially wary of with the Magnas? And also, wheres a good site for parts for them? I'm going to replace a couple of peices on the bike - and I'm sorta undecided on the drag bars that are on it thus far...might like 'em, might hate 'em...So might need another set of handlebars soon. Just looking for body peices here, btw. I know I said that I wanted to build a bike's engine in my last thread, but Jesus Christ am I scared of this bike. I have absolutely no desire to make it faster.

Check this site out. They will be able to answer any question about Magnas
Honda Sabre, Magna, Interceptor BBS - Index

I have 2 V65 magnas, and a V45 as well.

Opps I didn't see this was a old thread.
