Default Fuse keeps blowing

After 5000 trouble free miles my '01 1400 has starting blowing the turn signal/brake light 10a fuse. Last time I changed it it blew when I cranked the bike. Time before it seemed to take longer. Anyone got any ideas where the problem might be. I'd hate to have to rip out the entire wiring harness.

BTW, I can't believe I have to remove the seats to get the side panel off to get to the fuse block!

Crank as in crank the engine or crank the steering?

Had nearly the same thing on another forum -- a wire had been mashed by the thingies that stop the forks from turning too far.

Got to be a short, bad wire or insulation is grounding out. Just check the wiring one at a time until you see damage. ( since the bike is relatively new I doubt the problem would not be visible ( although it may be out of sight ). Either a bad kink or the insulation is rubbed off somewhere, Could be a bad connector also.

Default Fuse Blowing

Figured it was a short. Checked all the wires under the seat and on the rear fender but didn't find anything. Will be checking the fork routing next. The last time it blew was immediately when I engaged the starter so I'll be checking that too.

Thanks for the input and if you hear or think of anything else please let me know. If I solve it I'll let you know so we can pass it on to the next guy.

I had the same problem with my '96 1400. The problem was a short between the tank and an exposed soldered three way join in the harness. Check the electrics with the tank removed

next time it happens, just put a 50amp fuse in there .... then, just look for the smoke and you'll see where the problem is

(j/k ... do not do that)
