Default Motorcycle Scams

Saw a screaming deal on the local craigslist here locally. A Valkyrie 1999 for $3k. Too good to be true unless the thing has 100k miles.

So I get an email stating the guy is in the UK and he has a 3rd party company who will handle the transaction, respond if interested in details.

I can't access my email from work but I know this is someone asking for cash and promising goods later, I'll post the email for you.

I asked him this morning for a picture of the speedometer to bait him a bit further. I hate scammers, I'd like to make him feel some pain just sitting here wondering how I could do it.

Any suggestions?

If it is local, ask him to contact the local person and set up an appointment to see it in person.

Default scammers suck

Once in a while I have fun with those guys. I'll bait them along for a little while, asking lots of questions etc..... and then give them "my" phone number.........sure wish I could see the reaction when they call that phone number considering I give them the number to the local FBI office

Ok here's the intro...

Quote:
Hi,
the bike is in great condition, it has been properly maintained, never been dropped or abused in any way. It has clear title and the price I'm selling it for is $3000, which is including all the shipping charges.
I live in Salt Lake City but currently I am with work in UK, Aberden for the next approximately 7 months. Anyway, there shouldn`t be any problem, because I`m using MoneyBookers services so I can sell the bike without difficulty.
I left the bike at their warehouse before leaving to the UK. They will take care of the delivery. There`s a 14-day return policy so you will have the chance to test, inspect and ride it before final decision.
So if you want to purchase it, drop me a line and I will explain you how MoneyBookers works and how we can move forward.
I am waiting your email.

Thanks

Response.. Yeah, looks like a great bike do you have a picture of the speedometer?

Quote:
Hi ,

the bike is stored in Ogden (at MoneyBookers official location). It could take up to 25 days to set up an appointment to pick it up and I am not going to wait that long because I am paying some fees each passing day.

If you want to purchase it, let me explain you how MoneyBookers works and how we can proceed:

To start the official transaction, I need your full name and shipping address.

As soon as I receive your info, I will forward it to MoneyBookers, they will start the transaction and notify you with all the instructions (payment, shipping, my account status etc.) One of their agents will be assigned to handle the payment. You have to make the payment using the exact details they will provide you with and when the payment is complete, you have to send them the payment information, they will verify it and take care of the delivery. You will have a 14-day return policy, so you will have the chance to test and inspect the bike and decide either you keep it or not. If you decide to keep it, they have the power of attorney so they will transfer the title into your name and release me the funds, if not they will be responsible for the return shipping and you will have a complete refund within 3 days.

Anyway, they will explain you detailed the entire process.

I am waiting your email.

Thanks.

Hold on, let me get my checkbook...

Report it immediately to whatever contact Craigslist offers so some knucklehead doesn't get taken. Funny how the amount is always $3000, whether it's a Hayabusa or a Valkyrie.

At $3,001 it becomes federal.

go to 419eater.com to look up how to bait these people.
I'm currently baiting 2 Nigerians, In one I'm Dirk Pitt and have got them sending pics to me of potential employees to scout out the location of a civil war ironclad that got lost in a dry nigerian riverbed.

The other, I'm Dr. Fu Manchu getting them to send a pic of them holding a sign saying that they love to drink Cream of Som Yong Gai

Those same scammers are running all kinds of that crap all over on Craig's list. There was a boat listed in Denver the same way that one of the guys on the fishing forum posted about.

I had a guy on Craigslist who wanted to sell me a cellphone. The only stipulation was that we had to meet at the highway oasis. He may have been a senator, I dont really know. In any case that was the hardest work I've ever had to do to get a phone!

If you pay via postal money order via postal service, it becomes mail fraid, crossing state lines, and thus also federal.
