Default 2001 Suzuki Savage 650

Just got my first bike, used, and it didn't come with an owners manual. In the process of getting one, but does anyone know how much oil is supposed to be in there? Should I be able to see it when I take the cap off?

Thanks

Default Savage Oil level

Put the bike on a level surface, hold the bike vertical( have somebody sit on it). Then look at the little window just beneath the clutch lever. There are two mark on the metal around the glass window. The oil should be level with the top mark. Take the cap off and refill if required.

Drain plug is on the left side of the engine (where the gear shifter is), behinde the frame. It will take about 2.5 liters of oil if you change the filter too (is good to do it every oil change). Use 10W40 or 20W50 oil for now. Because is air cooled I would use 20W50 for city riding.

Default LS650

Hi ... am a happy Savage owner as well. The MOM and the Clymer manuals are wrong re; Oil Change Capacities for the LS650.

Oil Change without Filter change requires 1.8 litres of oil ... I use Suzuki brand 10W40

Oil Change with a Filter Change requires 2.0 litres of oil not 2.4 litres as stated in either of the above-mentioned manuals.

Cool wow....

I have a suzuki savage at my house, also without an owner's manual. A problem we have is the suspension. How do we adjust it, because the wheel rubs when we have too much weight on the bike. Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks!

Check your tire size. We bought a '99 savage for my wife this spring, and we had the local dealer put new Dunlops on it right after we bought it. The catalog had the correct size as a 90-series profile tire (I later checked the Dennis Kirk web site, which also listed 90 series as the correct size).

The tire rubbed on the drive home, and after some investigation, it occurred to me to look at the little sticker on the swing arm Sure enough, it specified 80-series. The dealer made good on the tire -- found the same model/tread patter in the right size (catalog sez it's for a Honda 1100) and replaced it.

Unhappy no.....

well, i checked the sticker, and the tire, and it is the right tire. I really think that it is the suspension, i just dont know how to make it stiffer. It has a hole on the bottom of the spring on the side, and the bike is a 2000. Thanks for trying, but i still need help.

Take an Allenkey or a round bar that fits the hole. Turn the bottom end of the shock. Cant remember wich way but anyway if you feel much resistance your stiffen the suspension.
