Default Pray for my friend....

or send good thoughts....or whatever floats your boat. It's just that he and I went through the MSF together a few months ago. Well, today he told me he's going to order a Victory Kingpin. One, his street experience is 2 days on a Nighthawk 250. Two, the bike he's buying is 1634 cc's! My fear is that he's gonna kill himself. His whole family has been associated with drag racing forever and it's in his blood. I just hope he doesn't spill that blood.

Unfortunately, he fell for the sales pitch that a smaller cc bike would require that he actually.......downshift ........on steep hills. Heaven forbid!

Oh well. His money. His life. I just like having him around.

Now, don't get me wrong, I'll drool on his bike every chance I get, and I may ride it around the block once or twice......

If draggin' is in his blood, at least it's not a Busa...Low and slow, that's the way to go....

Maybe you can keep him grounded in reality.

I actually felt more comfortable on my M50 than I ever did on the 250 Nighthawks. Although the Kingpin is even heavier, if he's judicious with the throttle, he'll do fine. If not, I'm such a good guy, I'll make the sacrifice and trade bikes with him.

Starting out on a big bike doesn't mean disaster is going to happen. When I got my licsense at age 18, I started out riding my father's Yamaha XS1100. Yeah, I scared myself a couple times and had a couple low speed / heavy weight incidents, but nothing major.

Think he'll cry when he dumps that $15,000, 650 pound monster in the driveway?

Certainly buying a high cc motorcycle doesn't issue your death warrant.

I've personally never owned anything larger than my 750 cc ducati and this bike doesn't intimidate me in the least but I've ridden a lot of years, granted not a ton of miles, but a good amount of higher cc bikes.

His ratio for success varies on several factors, # 1 factor being his maturity level. The bigger bikes demand respect and knowledge. Going the speed limit on any road almost grants you immunity regardless how powerful the bike is especially if you'd passed the msf.

If he keeps his speed in check and wears proper gear he'll be fine though I'd hate to have my first real bike be the one that costs me all that cash when dumping at low speeds.

I'll say a little prayer for him.

The Victory bikes are far from slow. Took one out on a demo ride last month and one of the fellow testers ran it off the driveway onto the grass before we even got out onto the road !

I suspect he'll be ATGATT, as long as ATG is shorts, tank and brain bucket. In all fairness, I think he'll be mellow and not kill himself. I hope I'm not wrong.
