Default Synthetic oil

Hi all, I have a c50 with 6300 miles and I`ve been told that a synthetic oil is best for the bike. I am planning a trip to the dragon in 2 weeks and I wanted to change the oil to a synthetic before I went. Somewhere I saw that Rotella T 5w-40 is a good oil to use. But the only one I saw says with soot control and does not say anything about motorcycles on it. Anybody out there use it ? Thanks in advance for the help.

You want the blue bottle. - ROTELLA Products

It won’t say it's for motorcycles, it will say for Diesel and Gasoline engines. Also one thing it wont say is energy conserving, if it does it’s the wrong stuff.

Might want to try Wal-Mart, I just picked up a gallon from there for $16.

Ya know, I read thread after thread about "this oil, that oil, which is best?". I gotta tell you I think synthetic oil is a waste of good $$$. I've been riding street bikes for 40 years, and dirt bikes for over 50, and I've always used good ole 4 stroke dinosaur oil.....used Honda oil when I had a Honda , HD oil when I owned HD's, now I use Suzuki oil from my dealer...never had an oil related problem, never an engine failure, never had any problems at all, and I've run my bikes HARD for a long time. IMHO, just use regular oil and change oil and filter every 1500 miles and you'll be FINE.

If I can double (or triple) that interval for twice the cost, plus have smoother shifting, why on earth wouldn't I? I'd be changing oil in the middle of even a short trip by that advice.

I can change my oil for less than $15.........if I change it right before I leave on a trip, it's nothing to change it 3-4 days later when I've gone 1500 miles...........takes me less than 15 min. to change.........OR if I don't feel like changing it, regular oil is good for at least 3,000 miles. The whole smoother shifting thing is, IMHO, you "thinking" that, to justify the $$$$ difference......that said, use whatever YOU like.....I really don't care if someone wants to use synthetic, I just don't think it's "all that". But to each his own, it's your money.

Don't knock it if you haven't tried it!

I find it rather interesting that you are willing to spend extra money changing your oil TWICE as often as necessary and then criticise others for spending the extra money on synthetic oil. Kinda hypocritical, don't you think?

That has to be the stupidest thing I've ever read in a forum of any type. Nice work! You've managed to call a whole group of your fellow members either idiots or liars.

As evidence to the contrary, I'll submit that I rejected pricier Amsoil for Mobil 1 on the basis of shift feel alone. Take that.

Well this sounds pretty much like a "jab" to me:

I think synthetic oil is a waste of good $$$.
The whole smoother shifting thing is, IMHO, you "thinking" that, to justify the $$$$ difference......

And you are the one who chose the jump into the thread with a contrarian position. Pull the tigers tail and you get scratched.

You accused us of either imagining the improvement or making it up. That's the insult we took offense to, if it wasn't obvious.

Well........it wasn't meant as an insult,,,,,,,,.I apologize....I meant it as in , I personally put some aftermarket pipes on my bike a few years ago.........paid big $$$ for them...........after putting them on I was POSITIVE it was faster...turns out the bike only made more noise, and actually made LESS horsepowwer because of no "back pressure" !...........but I had convinced myself it felt faster, because I was expecting it,when really it wasn't.........that was the point I was trying to make..........sorry if you took it wrong.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. If i'm willing to spend $4 on a cup of coffee at starbucks the price of oil becomes meaningless.

And as far as that 250cc comment... set up some cones, i'll put your c50 to shame. It will do donuts inside your bikes donuts and i can power slide my 250. How about you?

That comment wasn't meant for you, I posted it out of anger, and was only a retort for "easy riders" SLAM at me.....which ....go back and read my posts, I in NO WAY deserved! I apologize for that comment too. I'm a DIEHARD motorcycle fan, and I don't care what you ride, I'll like it......a 250cc bike is just FINE with me........I've owned 250cc race bikes and YES, they are FAST!!........so I take that back. It appears I've stepped on toes that I never meant to step on!

BTW, I apologized, and am done with this thread!........I really don't care if you run Heinz ketchup in your bike!

Back to the subject - I changed my oil the first time with Quaker State and noticed it wasn't as heavy as the original Suzuki oil. My friend's Harley manual said that if Harley oil wasn't available, use diesel oil. Since I own a diesel truck, I have Rotella on hand. It was as heavy as Suzuki oil, and I use it in my C90T. It works fine. I doubt that it quiets down the shifting clunk, though. It clunks no matter what I use. It's the nature of the beast.
