Default Help ! stop me before I spend again !

Sat on a C90 in the stealership today after riding more than 200mi on my C50 this morning. My butt was sore and man-oh-man that touring seat felt bigger and more generous.... like it would never ever cause the same kind of pain my C50 does. I am also real tall and the sitting posture felt a lot less cramped. I had them set it up for a test ride next week.....

ok, those are my rationalizations. Now all you kind people can tell me why I shouldnt do this....

Annie

Well, if that is one of the main considerations, make sure you ride it long enough to see if the seat is REALLY better or not.
And don't LIE to your butt. Listen to it!

C50 seat: Is it level, front to back? Or does it have a slight tilt toward the back?

Find someone who has a Mustang Seat on their C50, in your area and see if it will do the job,for about $350 you may find it a cheap alternative.

I definitely listen to my butt when riding.....it screams at me if I dont listen LOL.... and I do intend to take a C90T for a good long ride.

....the sideview of my 2005 C50 seat is essentially level...with a slight dip in the center. why do you ask?

I have 4200 mi on my C50 now...and have had the seat modified at Meancitycycles by Allen...who did a great job and that helped a lot....but it is still not as good as that touring seat on the C90.
I also use a gel pad and that helps some too....and moving around helps some too....and the grasshopperlimited backrest helps some too.... but when I sat on that touring seat, immediately after doing all the things I do to make my ride more comfy, it just felt like the answer. It was wider and deeper under my thighs and it felt great with no pressure points at all.

I wonder if I can get a C50T (or C90T?) touring seat retrofit to my C50 ... that might solve everything except the leg spacing. I have looked at the dealership suzuki offerings and on Ebay but they are not the same seat I saw on this bike...they look very different...more like a mustang look.....

...thanks Blackie....I havent sat on a Mustang seat yet, but I checked the specs and it seems it lowers and moves the rider forward. Both those things make my leg situation worse.....so i havent explored that option.

If you do a search for meancitycycles, you will find a post by PetCop.

She had her M50 seat modified by these guys, back in February of this year (07), and loved it.

They can be found here, and there prices are a whole lit less expensive that new seats, and sounds like they actually fix the problems. Check them out, and see what you think.b

A more comfortable seat will put off the upgrade on the bike for at least a year or two.

.......or until the next big design change, then you will "be due" for the next model.

I've got a GZ250. The stock seat is torture after only a few minutes. I have almost NO "natural" padding. There are no aftermarket seats. I got a gel pad and it helped some but not much.

So, I've been studying seats the last few days and noticed that all the big cruisers (that I saw anyway) had the front of the seat slightly higher than the rear.

So then I figured: What the hell, I'll see if I can try THAT. Turns out it is easy to do for a quick test just by putting the front tab on TOP of the bracket instead of locking it underneath; raises the front about 1-1/2 inches and the rear will still lock in place. At the same time, I pushed the gel pad back as far as it will go.

This might be the placebo effect, mind you, but at this point I think it has made a WORLD of a difference. I need to ride some more to be sure and then make some slight mods to make the new angle permanent. I think it puts just a little bit of the weight support on the gluts/thighs instead of squarely on the tail bone (area).

Time will tell. If it works for me, it may work for others too.
Then again, it might just be all in my head.

... thanks all.

I have already had the meancitycycles mod done...and it is a definite improvement....but I am learning by riding that the C50 seat and frame is just too small for me to be comfy on.

I have tried several things now to 'fix' the lack of comfort...and find each of them to be a placebo effect....after a bit, I am not so happy with the seat and try something else.

my fear is that this keep happening with the C90 T model ....anybody have a c90 T and hate the seat out there?

Annie, I am 6' tall with a 32" inseem. I found the stock seat awful. I upgraded to a Mustang and never looked back I have about 10,000 miles on this Mustang now. It rised the seat about 1 ". It makes me sit further back not closer. It is fermer but in a good way and absorbs the bumps better. The front end of the seat is narrower but you only notice it when your feet are down. When up on the boards its better. The whole seat cups my butt really firmly. Kind of like haveing a newborn sitting in the palm of your hand.( been many years since that happened.)

LOL Dave...
I am nearly your age...heavier, I suspect, and, uh, have a wider butt and longer legs...LOL. I am 6'3" and 34" inseams. I read somewhere that Mustang seats move you down and forward an inch....but now I will have to check that again since you tell me it aint so. It certainly would be cheaper....and I really do like my C50 for everything else
I loved holding newborns... *sigh*.... wish my two boys would get busy on the grandchildren thing...LOL

OK............... at 6'3" and with a 34" inseam, you most probably, need forward controls, allthough I don't know how that would work on a bike with floorboards.

On the M50, which has pegs, it is no issue.

If you could move the foot controls forward, it would give your legs some extra space to streatch out.

Hey Annie..... I have over 30,000 on my bike. I am 6' with a 32" inseam, 250lbs

I have done an IronButt ride (1040 miles in 18 hours), and several 800+ mile days. On 2 of the 800 mile days I rode 400 the next day (1200 in 2 days, twice )

I have John's forward controls (Custom Lowering bones and forward controls for Volusias and New Boulevard C50), Lonnie's backrest (Home), a Mustang seat, Harley Duece 6" risers, and a Cobra Crashbar with Kuryaykn offset peg mounts (Longhorns??). I can ride this bike all day long...... Then still get back on it the next day. Anything beyond 3 gear and my feet are up on the crashbar pegs. My point is.... That for less than $700 total you can make some major improvements to the bike.

Default OK Annie test rode the C90T

ok.... there will not be a C90T in my future....
I test rode one today and didnt really like it all that much better. The seat only supports me a little bit better than my own modified MEancitycycles seat....and that was the main thing. Otherwise it certainly is a bigger frame....and whoooosh....it can sure get up to speed a lot faster than my little baby....but I dont really need that... I am happy with my C50's power. It is not worth shelling out another $5000 for a slightly improved seat .
I will look into forward controls (thx Intimidater and v0lusia )...and maybe I will try this new airhawk seat cushion I just found.
Annie
