Default adjusting gearshift level on a 2004 Intruder 800

... should have been simple, I've done it on my old bike, but it seems like
on the Intruder I have to take out entire kick-stand support.

Also, the owner's manual (not the repair manual, I don't have one yet) does not mention it either - could be the sign that this is not a 'do-it-at-home' job.

Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks in advance

You can remove the gearshift lever without pulling anything else apart. If it split in the back, and a bolt squeezes it on the splined shaft. Look down from the top, behind the foot peg, and remove the bolt at the top of the shift lever. You can then slide the lever off the shaft. You are supposed to line the split with the mark on the shaft when you put it back in, but I'm guessing you could rotate it a little either way and put it back on, thus adjusting the height of the lever in relation to the footpeg.
