Default Tire help..

Hi,
I just got a 1997 marauder 800 suzuki, the rear tire is in good shape but it has a screw in it. I was told you cant patch a bike tire wich stinks because i work in a tire department, but anyways, instead of throwing the tire away, could i just get a tube and use in the tire or is that not safe to do? its a dunlop tire.
thanks

You can't put a tube in a tubeless tire. You can patch motorcycle tires, using the same guidelines that you would for a car tire: Only small, clean punctures, never in the sidewall. The only question is whether you're willing to assume the risk such a patch imposes. I'd guess a poll would result in roughly a 50/50 split. Riding alone on a tour, I'd plug it with my kit and patch it when I could. Carrying a passenger, I'd buy a new tire asap. Her safety is worth more than $150.

I'd say replace it, but that's just my opinion.

The patches we use at work will outlast the car tire, they have a plug built onto them that extends through the puncture and also patches from the inside, they dont come off, i dont see why that wouldnt work safely, but i was told not to..
