| Hi all, New here to the site and the forum so 1st an intro - and Hello to all your riders out there! My question is simple one but I have been given so much advice I am little foggy on what to do or not to do. I own a 98 Yamaha V-Star Classic 650, I ripped the old stock pipes off 1st thing and put a set of Bubs Big Willys straights on it for the sound and look - they sound great but I am sure I need some tuning done to make up for the more free flowing after market pipes I have on it now. Should I have the carbs jetted to work better with the new exhaust or no - that's my dilema. I notice that I do not have as much back pressure with these pipes as I did with the stock ones so I assume I should have the carbs synced and just have it tuned to the new less restrictive pipes - should I also look at getting a better air filter or a hypercharger?..I am not a speed freak so I am not concerned with power - but I do want to make sure it is running as it should with the new pipes and not running to rich. Anyone have any feedback lemme know ..I am all ears!! Later PAPA |

| If you're not getting surging and don't have flat spots in the power curve, there's really no reason to rejet. Cold starts would be easier with a richer mix, but since you didn't fill out your profile I'll assume you live in the desert where that's not an issue. Welcome.

| Rowdy, Sorrry I did not fill out the profile - I will do that soon. I actually live in Charlotte, NC - so it is pretty humid here in the Summer and can get chilly and dry here in the Winter. I have not noticed any flat spot in the power curve accept for when I take off in 1st - I have to throttle a little more then I think I should - course - could be I just need to have the clutch adjusted to the friction zone I like - right now it grabs way late...I like the grab to happen about halfway out when releasing the clutch..right now it is almost when the clutch is almost completely released does it grab...seems a little late for me... but thanks for he input! I had to clean the jets twice on this bike when I first got it - one of the low velocity jets was completely clogged - I am sure I cleaned them good but who knows - could use a set of new needles and a new fuel filter to boot! That may be the best and a tune up for sure... Thanks PAPA |

| Run a batch of Seafoam through the tank next time you take a long ride. That stuff works wonders on fuel residue.

| Roger that Rowdy ..will do that when I go for long ride. I plan on getting some miles in this weekend - supposed to be in the upper 70's - to low 80's this weekend here in NC..sounds like perfect riding weather to me! Ride on ! PAPA |
