| Hey guys, I just got my first bike, its a 2003 Yamaha V Star 650 I'm so stoked. I got it for a steal!!!! I have been spending 300+ dollars a month in gas going 120 miles round trip to work twice a week so this is gonna be great. Now for some help. Ive google searched for some vstar forums and aftermarket parts I havent found much. Anybody got any sites? I wanna put louder pipes on it cause its really quiet I also need to put a windshield on it cause the wind is pretty gnarly on the freeway. Have any of u installed a windshield on a bike? I want a smaller shield but i want it to do its job what do i do? Thanks in advance!!! |

| Not sure if you are new to riding as well...but if so, I would recommend the MSF course. As far as pipes...it's all in how much you want to spend. V&H's, HardChrome, Jardines, etc. I second the Memphis shade line. |

| I also use Memphis Shades windshield and it makes a big difference at highway speeds, very easy to install also. My uncle let me take his vstar 650 for a quick ride over the weekend, nice ride.

| Another vote for Memphis Shades. Easy to install and even easier to remove if you want - less than 30 seconds and it comes with the tool you need.

| Congrats man. I have to recomend memphis shades even though I don't own one. Reason is, I've heard nothing but good things about these windshields. Regarding the pipes, a buddy of mine has a VStar 1100 and had cobra straight pipes on it. They are really nice sounding. Not overly loud but they have a much meaner growl than stock. Now since you're asking for suggestions. The best suggestions I can give is: BE SAFE AND HAVE FUN!

| This is a good site. You can filter your search by the type bike you have. I have the filter set at the 650 v-star classic. On the right you can change it if you need to: Yamaha V-Star 650 Classic Parts and Accessories We put cobra drag pipes on my wife's 650 custom. Not what I would call 'loud' but does make it sound a lot better than stock. Good luck!! |

| Thanks for all the advice guys i really appreciate it....i rode the bike to work for the first time on friday i just got home this am it was "120 of the most easy going, smooth, CHEAP miles i have ever drove" ha ha. I'm going to buy a shield from them but i also wanted to get some pipes You all seem to like the cobra..... do you know of any used part forums or sites aside from ebay??? Also is doing the 4000 mile service and installing the pipes complicated. Suggestions for special tools, parts or manuals? Thanks again everyone, this is def a friendly informative forum! Chris |

| Memphis Shades are nice but the one I bought is only 17in high and the wind comes over the top and hits my helmet and it feels like I'm riding behind a truck. So, I suggest getting one that is tall so to be under the air flow. Ride Safe and have fun! |

| Congrads on the bike. That 650 is a sweet ride. How about the MSF course? Next go to BikerHiway.com and purchase the Stebel horn. 139dB of pure sound. While there do yourself a favor and get the light modulator kit. Better to be safe, seen and heard. Catch you one the ride. MIKE aka Uturn |
