Default Drilling stock pipes???

Yes, I know this is a common question but......anyways, I really want a little more noise from my Shadow Spirit 750, nothing too obnoxious though, just a little rumble. I don't really want to dump money in aftermarket pipes just yet. I am considering drilling out my stock pipes, but I'm not sure A) If it will work B) Screw anything up C) Affect performance D) Have to re-jet my carbs or anything. Any friendly advice out there? Looking for experience out there. Thanks

It won't affect performance and it will give you a bit better sound. A little louder and deeper. You won't have to remap either. If you want it even louder you can completely remove the baffles and there is plenty of information on this on these forums. I just drilled a few holes in the tail pipe on my exhausts and am relatively happy with the difference till I can afford new pipes.

Since your bike is carbureted, you should watch for signs of excessive lean mixture after any intake or exhaust modifications. This could result in severe engine damage or siezure, and personal injury.

The carburetor depends on manifold pressures to siphon fuel, whereas fuel injection systems are supplied via constant electric pump.

My g/f's brother one day told me he drilled his pipes. How I'm not sure. But whatever he did made the bike sound like a..like a bubble maker machine..pop pop pop pop noise. The following week he went and bought a set of Cobras.

Good luck. Most that I know about it.

+1

On my C50, I had put in a K&N air filter and drilled my pipes. It definitly made my bike run even more lean. I know that from checking the plugs. All good now with the PC3.

I think it was more because of your new air filter than the drilled pipes.

Thanks for the comments guys. I also found another mod, where you use a holesaw and cut out the resonators. I saw a video clip on it, and the bike sounded really good afterward. Has anyone done this?

Was that the video with the C50? If so, be careful. Your pipes are probably different. A lot of guys have debaffled, some really like, some not so much.
