Default Kuryakyn passenger floorboard install, C50T

I have the Kury passenger floorboards and adapter, but am having a helluva time installing them. If anyone has done so with same, how did you get the screw that holds the floorboard mounting bracket to the adapter to go in far enough to tighten? And, did you use the stock pin and c-clip from the OEM footpeg to mount the adapter to the footpeg bracket? I used a bolt with nylon nut combo thinking it'd hold the adapter more rigid, but even that's not working entirely well. And lastly, the set screw on the back of the adapter...what's the story with that? Does it do anything? Is that little set screw actually supposed to "level" the adapter for the foot position?

Thanks,
Daryl
