Question Tires

Need some help. I know everyone has their own opinion and i would like to hear them. I am thinking about upgrading the tires on my 90T. I had put Avon tires on the VTX1300 I used to ride and I liked them. I have read quite a lot about the Metzeler 880s. You folks have any info on them.

Thanks in advance....

The Metzlers are going to be my next tire, I haven't had experience with them but have heard a lot of good comments about them.

+1, Same here, I haven't tried them, but have heard great things about the ME880 Marathons.

Rick, I have to put 200 more miles on my bike for the 1000 mi. service. At that time, I will be getting the Metzelers. I will let you and Hammersfan know what I think after I get some miles on them. I know most of you riders out there probably do your own work on your machines, not me. When you get my age you don't want to spend time working on it, you want to be riding because your on the down hill slide and your days are numbered, ha. Also want to say, I pass on to the chaps I work with some of the quotes, like yours, " Ever notice___" and I can't remember who has the one about his " Grandfather dying peasefully__". We hoot at those. There a couple more also. Keep it up guys, we can use the laughs.

Metzlers are the ones to buy. Had them on VN750. Don't scrimp on tires, remember you ride on two and if you loose one it can get pretty squirrely

I have gone with the Dunlop K555. I am very please with this tire. Very sticky on dry pavement once it is heated up, had no problems in the turns at the Dragon. Also handles pretty good on wet pavement also. Had this tire on my bike when I got caught in a blinding rain storm on the Cherohala at about 5000 feet elevation (very cold up there, the temp had no effect on the compound) and had no problems with handling issues.

The reason I did not go with the Metzler's is because my wife bought me this tire as a present for Fathers Day (for my trip to the Dragon).

Just my two cents.

This may sound lame but although I've been riding 30 years on and off (now on, and before now, I also had a car), I've never really paid more than a nodding aquaintance to my tires.

I'm a little toey (anxious) at the moment as my default tyres on kerrie-anne are now over 20k old. they are legal, just but i have a problem at the moment. i'm holding off on the 18k service (my 12k got done at 14k so we're on track) and tyre change 'cause there's this pending swap of bikes.

but whatever, i'm pretty stoked to have got 20k outta a pair of dunlops. and they're still solid.

Do readers here generally change at a set period (like 10,000 miles) or do they base a tyre change on feel/look?

Curious to know.

My rear tires are usually good till the wear bars start to show, and that's never the same mileage for different bikes, if it's the same bike, the mileage is usually within about 1,000.

Front tires I sometimes have to change before the wear bars start to show, because the cupping can get so bad it starts to have a bad effect on handling.

This company has some great prices on tires. I was wondering if anyone here has experience dealing with the American motor cycle tire company ?

American Motorcycle Tire - Motorcycle Tires from Dunlop, Metzeler, Bridgestone, and More ...

Dr. Bob suggested that I try the Metzler for my Intruder. I got ME880's in December, and have only put about 500 miles on 'em, but they feel good to me. I think I took some good advice.

- how is the mileage on the Metz's?

I have a set of Dunlops -- 405 on the front, K555 on the rear and have close to 14000 on them -- still good

I ran the original Bridgestones for 20000 miles about 1000 too many -- for safety

I might replace the tires on my '05 C50 this year. I'm still running the originals, with about 11K miles on them. The rear's not down to the wear bars yet, but once a tire is > 2 years old, I get nervous that the rubber compounds start to harden up and the tire won't stick as well as it should.

I'm looking at either the Metzler ME880's or Dunlop D404's. I'm partial to Dunlop -- I like how they stick, and I'm willing to trade some tire life for that. My wife's Savage had a D404 on the back and it worked pretty well.

I have 17,000 KM on mine , right now the bike is in storage but I will be looking to get a new rear tire soon, they seem like they have a few more clicks left on them but I don't want to push my luck !
