| You have to get what you like, not based on anyone elses opinion. I have a big muscle cruiser but my next bike will be a BMW R122RT I want the comfort for me and the wife on long trips.

The S50 seems to be about the same as a Sportster 883. I'd do the math for the bigger bikes but I'm lazy. Don't let your family push you into a Harley if that's not what you want. Regarding no one suggesting a HD, this used to be a Suzuki-centric forum, so there are significantly more Suzuki riders here than perhaps elsewhere.

As far as Harleys go, I can go with the V-Rod or its derivatives.

| With only 1200 miles on your current bike, you really shouldn't be too worried about your next bike yet. As for what it should be, that depends on you. Ride your S50 for a time, and decide what it is about it that you don't like, and see what kind of riding you do the most. Then get a bike to fit those needs. If you find the S50 to be uncomfortable and cramped, your next bike should be something physically bigger like a C50 or Vulcan 900. If you find it to be lacking in displacement as well as uncomfortable, consider a Harley Dyna or a larger metric cruiser like the C90 or Vulcan 1600. If you find yourself wishing it had more ground clearance and better traction on dirt roads, get a dual sport. If you wish it would lean more in the corners and do better wheelies, get a sportbike. If you like interstate trips and find the lack of storage on the S50 a bother, then look at a Harley Road King, Yamaha Roadliner, Kawasaki Concours, or other bike with hard bags. If you find yourself wanting cruise control, heated grips, a CB, and an AM/FM/CD player, then you should look at a Goldwing, Venture, or Harley Ultra Glide. If you find your S50 to be too slow, you might want to look at a Honda 1800VTX, Suzuki M109, V-rod, or Yamaha Warrior. If you find yourself wishing for ape hangers, lots of exhaust rumble, more chrome, and something no one else is riding, consider a chopper or custom from Big Dog or one of the other smaller manufacturers. If you just pick your next bike based on what other people say they like, or on styling, rather than on the type of riding you want to do, then chances are you will not be real happy with it down the road. As for a Harley equivilent to your S50, there isn't one. The 750-800cc mid-sized class cruisers are a Japanese invention. Harley makes the 883 and 1200cc Sportster standards (the 883 being the closest thing to your S50), and the 1100cc V-rod muscle bike, but their cruisers are all 1600ccs now.

I enjoy looking at choppers but I'm not crazy about them. Too many of them have too much empty space below the tank. Something about all that space between the tank and engine puts me off.
