Default I'm Heading West From Florida

I'm going west from Pensacola, Florida as soon as I hope I won't freeze, probably late April or early May. I'm going as far west as Nevada, taking the southern route and lesser travelled roads (if there are any left), and coming back through Colorado, Oklahoma, etc. Anyone have any suggestions? I really need to know about campgrounds, preferably state camps.

Most campgrounds have online reservation systems. Research carefully, because some are right next to the interstate or some other noisemaker and you won't get any sleep. If you use KOA, check for non-biased reviews. Some are little more than patches of dirt with a bathroom in the bad side of town. Some are fantastic. You can read what I discovered in my ride report. I'd get some AAA camping books even if you're not a member. They're very helpful.

Good luck!

You really did well on that story, Rowdy. I haven't read it for understanding, yet, but I will this evening. And you answered a question I had about public campgrounds. I was just up in Mississippi, a 600 mile round trip. I stayed at a state park which was very nice and only cost $13. Someone told me those little signs you see everywhere, the blue ones with the little camper on them, are municipal campgrounds and that they, too, are nice.

Someone told me once that bike riders are a lot like the cowboys of old, in that they are just a little short of being totally insane. You seem like a cowboy to me. Uh, that's a compliment, actually.

Thanks,
Don

Never mind.

Conversely, sometimes it's nice to have a mode of transportation you don't have to fill up.

Just keep inmind that the higher elavations (6ish, 7ish, thousand feet and above) can still get snow during that time of the year. So, check the forecast as you go.
