Hi I am new: How do you know the exact model #?

Hi everyone,

I have had my bike for a while now. It is a 1994 1400 Intruder. I purchased it used in 1998. It looks like it has been dropped and repaired by previous owner(s).

It has up graded cobra exhaust and jets. Also harley like mirrors.
I will post pics when I get my PC repaired (Virus).

Anyways I am currently looking to get some replacement parts. So I have noticed that the 1400 Intruder has some different interations. How do I find out the exact model of my bike?

Also here are some parts that I will be looking for, can you all point me in the right direction for good parts and good prices.
Front and back rotors
Brake pads
The cap on the right end of the handle bars
Left rear turn signal (bad wire)
seats (are the seats on Ebay good?)

Hmmm, can't you just go with the year? Or have a look at your registration papers, on mine I have a more detailed model for my bike.

The different designations go with the various model years. The VS1400 Intruder GLF was a 1987 only; the GLP is from 87 to current, with a different letter added to designate the year. As a 1994, yours is a VS1400GLP (R). The “R” should be somewhere in your bike’s VIN number on the frame.

OEM parts are available online from Ron Ayers Motorsports (ronayers.com). They have the microfiche online with diagrams, part numbers, and prices, and they are generally quite a bit cheaper than the local dealer. I have ordered from them many times, and have always been happy.

The OEM front and rear rotors are about $150.00 each, so you probably want to go ahead and upgrade to an aftermarket set, which are better anyway and not too much more expensive. Either way, get aftermarket Kevlar pads, which will not squeak like the stock ones will. Try ECBbrakes.com or Cyclebrakes.com.

The cap at the end of the handlebar grip is only about $3.50. The turn signal will set you back about $45, or you could go to the Intruder Alert Owners Club website (intruderalert.com) and post on the technical board and see if someone has a used on they will sell you cheap, as many folks have removed theirs to install aftermarket LED signals. This site has a board for parts for sale also.

By EBay seats, so you mean the used ones or the new ones? The new ones are a bit of a rip off. They are generally being sold by someone who does not actually have them; they just take your order and then order one from the manufacturer and have it shipped directly to you, so you generally end up paying just as much if not more than if you bought it from a real online store, but do not have the protection of dealing with a real business, and usually have to wait longer to get it. Just order one from a website that has one in stock and you will be better off. IntruderAlert.com has product reviews by Intruder owners, so you can get a good feel for what you want from there. If you just want a ‘take off’ stock seat from someone who bought an aftermarket seat, then EBay is certainly the best way to get one cheap. I got one there for my Intruder for about 1/10 of what the dealer wanted for a stock seat.
