I can't imagine the bibs not keeping you warm with so many in favor of wearing them. I was on a ride this weekend. Temps were about 55F. We stopped at a cafe frequented by riders and saw no less than 12 in their carhardt bibs.

| I wear my Snowmobile bibs. They work great. Easy on, and off, and better wind protection than carhardt's.

| I used to wear a snowmobile suit when I rode in cold weather (sometimes down in the teens Farenheit). Like Rickster, I think what's more important than insulating value is wind protection. Maybe Carhartts under rain gear would be ideal. And way cheaper than a snowmobile suit.

| Son wears bibs and tops by Carhardt, great for trunk but need tall boots and tall warm socks. I use downhill bibs over draggin jeans, same story on footwear for total comfort. Quote:

| A little add-on, just got off a test ride with leather chaps over draggin jeans with outdoor temp at 43, discovered that it blocked the draft between boot and pantleg eliminating that discomfort spot altogether. yeah I know it is kinda off topic but similar too

| The key to warmth at speed is windproofing. Carhartt products are mostly cotton and not water or windproof. As mentioned, they don't offer much protection, either.

| I wear chaps and double up on shirts, use a face mask. I can ride fine in 40 temps, but when it dips into the 30's, I'm back in the cage. The coldest I've ridden home from work was last spring on afternoons coming home at 2am it was 34 degrees. a mere two degrees from freezing, i came home going about thirty mph the whole twenty miles. I have a carhardt jacket that blocks the wind real good. It's the best thing I have for working outdoors. I mean, it's made to block the wind. But i haven't ridden on the bike with it. I know people who have tried their snowmobile suits and said it didn't do much for keeping them warm.

| I have worn Carhartts for years in temps as low as the mid 20's. Two things to watch for is wind up the legs and sleeves. A few wraps of electrical tape around each ankle and wrist pretty much cures that. Curt Last edited by HellBent; 11-18-2006 at 10:07 PM. |
