Just curious. When you take these long rides, what do you take with you to take care of flat tires? That's the only thing that concerns me about getting too far from home, but I've rarely heard anyone say they've had a problem. Maybe I'm just being paranoid. I've got tow insurance through Progressive, but if I'm broken down in the middle of no where, it could still be a LONG wait.

I put cobra pipes and thier auto fuel cell on, along with a K&N fuel filter, and got a lot more power for the buck. Adding a lowering kit, fat hangers and highway pegs makes for a very smooth handling bike. Much easier to corner than with standard height bars. You can control the movement of the bike more with your ass/hips than w/ with the steering.

We ride for about 2 hours before needing a rest due to the puppies. They ride with us and love it. Most comfy bike I've ever ridden. Besides the intruder 1500 which the boyfriend has.

Happy riding.

Sorry , I couldn't resist !

I see you finally bought a bike, good for you.

If your riding Chi Town to L.A., you might want to look into one of the Route 66 tours, I did one last summer with a group called "mother road rally" (do a Google search) It was a really great group of people.
Watch out for that L.A. traffic, it put the fear of God in me, and yes I have driven/ridden in Chicago rush hour traffic, it doesn't even come close!

I have used a plug kit for tubeless tires, and a bicycle CO-2 inflater. It worked great, just remember to carry 5, CO-2 cartridges, it will take at least 4 for a motorcycle tire. Check tire pressure at your first opportunity.

Rickster: thanks, I hope to go with a friend or in a group, but if I have to, I'll go alone. I'm originally from Los Angeles, so I know driving habits there.
