| Hi everyone: New biker here, and new to this forum. I am signed up for MSF course (in a few weeks), and until then I am taking "unofficial" parking lot lessons from my hubby . . . 3 so far. Although I have not dropped the bike or crashed, I do not feel at all comfortable yet. Especially turning. And stopping (other than when from a glide). I'm getting discouraged. But I have never been on a bike before, and my husband says I'm doing fine. When does a "comfort level" (versus "fear") set in? I have a Suzuki Savage 650--not too heavy, fits me well, but plenty powerful. I REALLY like the bike but am feeling overwhelmed right now. Did I bite off more than I can chew? Thanks for any comments. I really DO want to do this, but am feeling a little scared and discouraged right now. Kathy G Orlando FL |

| I'm very new too, and I completely understand what you are talking about. Something I've been noticing about fear: when I ride everyday, even if it's just for a little bit, my confidence level is much higher. If I don't ride for a day, I feel a little shaky and nervous initially. I'm still using the parking lots and quite streets of a nearby college campus for practice, but I'm already riding on the street. My fear is transforming into caution as the panic leaves but the paranoia stays. Anyway, good luck! I look forward to hearing more about your learning experiences. |

| Hi ... you're doin' fine ... just keep up the practise and things will gel ... I've been Ridin' for almost a year and sometimes I still get butterflys from time-to-time ... it's OK. As previous poster stated the fear will turn to healthy parnoia! B.T.W. the Savage is a great Bike ... I love mine!

| Kathy, GREAT choice of bikes. You will be able to ride it for a long time and have a lot of fun with it. By all means take the course, it will help with your nervousness while maneuvering. Plus it is a lot of fun. Then practice practice practice. Find ANY excure to ride it. (Hey honey, I am gonna run to the store for, um, a pack of gum. Yeah, a pack of gum.) Also continue the parking lot practice, that is a great way to gain low-speed handling practice. You are in for a great time.
