Default exhaust queston

Well, I hate to keep whipping a dead horse, but I do have a question about after market exhausts-I bought an '06 C50 in april, and I'm thinking about changing the pipes to the V&H cruisers. I know I would would have to have my FI re-mapped, but why would I have to buy a power commander, or similar unit, if the re-mapping is a one shot thing? I asked my local Suzuki stealer the same question, and the service guy said they could do the re-mapping, and I didn't really need to buy the power commander unit-so, my question is, if the re-mapping is a one time thing, why do I need to spend the money on the power commander, or do I?

Some of us went the TFI control way because we could not find a dealer with the ability\equip. to remap, others went this route as it gives them the ability to adjust themselfs.

If you are going to aftermaket pipes I would do a K&N aircleaner and the remap.

Thats my 2 cents.

I have a K&N and Techclusion FI and am happy with the stock pipes.

thanks, for the replies-i did get the k&n filter, and i did drill 3 holes in the front baffle plate of both pipes. The sound did improve, just not quite the 'rumble' I'm looking for. I didn't have the f/i re-mapped, and my bike dosen't pop or backfire upon de-exceleration-I'm lucky, I guess, to have two dealers in my area that have the equipment/knowledge to do the re-mapping, should I decide to get the v&h cruisers.

I asked a mechanic about this the other day and he told me that most shops will tell you that you need a re-mapping when you get a custom exhaust but it has been his experience that 80% of the time its not needed. He suggests running it and seeing how things are going before getting the bike re-mapped.
