| Back in August when I was researching bikes before I made my purchase I ran across a great article at the Motorcycle.com web site. It was a comparison of four of the most popular light middle weight cruisers including, the Suzuki M50, the HD 883, the Kawasaki Vulcan 900, and the Honda Shadow 750 Aero. Four reviewers rated all four bikes and all four agreed that the Suzuki M50 was their choice as the best bike. Here is the link: 2006 Light-Middleweight Cruiser Comparison I ended up buying a 2007 M50 Limited Edition and have been extremely pleased with it. Good luck with your decision making. |

| How close behind was the Kawasaki 900 Vulcan? I kind of like the looks of the Kawasaki, and besides the rest of the crowd can by the M50/C50 I remember once that I drove along with a guy who had a HD 883 and I was on the old Yamaha 850. Usually, from the stop sign, I would pull ahead and have to slow down to let him catch up. After we got to our destination the HD guy said "What are you driving so fast for, I had trouble keeping up." I replied "Fast, heck that was a bit over half throttle, you ain't seen fast yet." Although I've heard the HD Sportster 1200 is supposed to be pretty zippy.

| Not a big fan of the 883. The only one I've ever ridden was a VERY rough ride. Granted I only rode it for about 10miles and I have no other experience with the 883 sportsters. The one I rode was the 883L (low). I do love the look of the nightster though. That's a sweet looking ride. Having owned a C50, if I was gonna get a bike and I could only choose between a C50 or a Sportster 883 (the 2 bikes mentioned in the original post) I would go with the C50 in a heartbeat. There really is no comparison IMO. DANG! This is an old thread though, no?

| On paper that might appear to be true, but in reality the S50 is a closer match to the 1200cc HD. My brother-in-law has the 1200 and I have the S50. Both 05's, both are bone stock. He has more comfort, but that's where it ends. The S50 can out maneuver and out brake the HD. That alone would sway my purchase, but even performance wise he has yet to beat me in high speed roll ons and short speed contests, but it's so close he could easily even the odds just going on a diet. He also paid twice what I did. If you want a harley get one, but don't confuse them with value. The real choice here is "bang for the buck" or american icon?

| Lots go for the american icon thing. If i had money to throw away, i'd buy an icon too. Right after I win the lottery.

| Not saying I have the answers as this one's personal choice. When I was younger the first road bike I learned to ride was a 59 pan, rode several sporty's 883, 900, 1200's, Road Kings, FL's FLH's. Today I have a C50T why? It's comfortable, handles well, do I miss the Harley's yes to a degree, which one is better -- depends on your view of better, pick what you like ride it and enjoy it. All bikes have their strong and weak points the only bikes I never like was the one's produced in the Soviet regime I thought they was crude. But I know some whom likes them, again indivdual choice. What's important is that you are in the wind and enjoying it.

| <pick what you like ride it and enjoy it…> I think that is the correct answer… if raw performance was the issue, looking at anything cruiser-esque is silly… if availability of parts is an issue, looking at almost any bike except a big-twin HD is equally silly… if pure comfort is the answer, the touring bikes own the landscape… fact is, once one has ridden a few scoots over many years, I think one becomes far less parochial and just begins to enjoy the ride… except for those who envision a garage-queen, actually riding becomes proportionally more essential than just what one is straddling…
