Default I wimped out!

Gave my M50 to my 36 year old nephew. He is a school teacher and helicopter pilot. I bought me a new 2006 Kawasaki Mean Streak. I looked at the M109 and the Roadliner and the Softail Deluxe.
The Deluxe was twice the price of a Mean Streak.
The Roadliner felt like I was on a Bus. I am 5'6" and could barely touch the
controls.
The M109 scares the crap out of me. This is only my third year of riding and I still have of problem of showing off too much. (especially around girls). It's like I get this look-at-me syndone and bam I screw up.

Therefore, Because I know me and I think I am not ready for so much power from the M109 , I chose the Mean Streak. It is very smooth! It meets all my expectations at this time. I am not trying to do burnouts because I know that's not what it's intended purpose is. I ride with smoothness and confidence because I have a Mean Streak that corners well, brakes well, and looks good.

Maybe I should change the title of this post to
"I got what was right for me"

Curt I don't tink you wimped out at all. The MeanStreak is a VERY respectable bike with LOTS O POWER!!!! You will be amazed at some of the handling characteristics that thing can do. My friend Kelley can crawl off of that thing in the twisties like he is riding a Gixxer and can turn them corners like they are nothing. Plus that bike is quick as hell.

You made a good choice and remember this. There is only so much power you will ever really need on a bike. It is kinda like that saying about mamories. More than a mouthfull is a waste. It is nice to have more,, but do you really need it???? You will be fine with that bike and it is one that you will not be able to outgrow. Have fun and enjoy that bike. Don't let it fool you,, it is a strong quick bike.

CONGRATS!!!!

Thanks!
I am happy! I am enjoying this bike. I think I have room to grow and learn.
I now have a bike that can move a 260 lb. body with ease. I am looking forward to many road trips with this baby!

Thumbs up Good choice

I think you made a good choice.
My friend Peter has the same bike. It handles very well and has plenty of power.

No complaints from him.

Ride Safe, God Bless

Congratulations!!!

That bike feels really nicely balanced and being vertically challenged you can swing your leg over the saddle with no problem.

This might be the first time I've ever hear anyone who bought a bike like the meanstreak thinking he wimped out....you're all man Bone!

Great bike

FWIW, I think you made an excellent choice of bike. The Mean Streak is a great bike and can be made into a classic cruiser with bags, etc. I think you are going to get years of enjoyment out of that bike and you're learning curve will be steep and steady!

Ride safely and enjoy...

Thanks, everyone. I am having a great time so far. The Meanstreak is very smooth. I am still in the break-in period (450 miles - lots of rain).
Some of the differences between the Mean Streak are listed below:

1. Extra features - body, handle bars, seamless gas tank, more chrome, and an automatic turn signal cutoff.

2. Brakes- Wow! Best braking in the Cruiser class.

3. Tires and handling. really nice. Lay that baby down.

Dislikes. Seems to be harsh over bumps. Doesn't unsettle but clunks and dunks (maybe because I am 260).

I had a long ride of 45 miles the other day and this baby felt like I was just riding in the wind. I mean I felt light and was just sitting on a cloud of AIR.
Wierd!
I pray I can keep this baby upright more than I kept the last two.

COngrats on the meany. I like the meanstreak best out of all the bigger cruisers. Would chose it any day over the 109.

When bike and rider are mismatched; eventually one will avoid the other... when they are matched, you won’t be able to find either of `em – they’ll be gone...
