Default First 600 mi service rip off

I called my local dealer today to get the 600 mile service on my new Volusia. His first question was if I bought the bike from him. When I told him I bought it from a private party used and saved $2000, he told me it would take at least 48 hours to do the service and cost $220. He also commented that he could charge me the $2000 I saved for the first service! That is one of the reasons I decided not to buy a new bike from him in the first place. I called another Suzuki dealer in a small town about 50 miles away and he told me he could have it back to me in about an hour and the cost would be $110.00. The local Honda dealer also told me he could do the service if I furnished the Suzuki oil filter in about an hour for $105.00. The Honda dealer is 50 miles closer and a whole lot friendlier and will probably get my business. Too bad Yamaha, Suzuki, Sea Doo of Ch..... can't see the forest for the trees. In the past I bought 2 bikes from him and led friends to buy about 8 others. He won't get my business again.

I would never again darken the door of that pirate, I mean, dealer. SOBs like that should go rot.

I agree that dealer is an SOB and you should definitely take your business elsewhere. However, I think even $110 is way too much for a 600 mile service. My Marauder is approaching 600 miles, and I intend to do the service myself. It's just not that difficult.

It's all about doing the service yourself. Get your self a service manual and some metric wrenchs and go crazy nuts!!! You'll be syncing carbs and changing fluids in no time. I have two dirt bikes and a truck that I service myself and intend to do the same when I pick up my Intruder in a week.

I wouldnt do the first service myself. The manual says its the most important ..they are supposed to check the valves and thats something I would leave to an expert.

I haven't posted in a while, but I just traded my Volusia for an Intruder LC. The 600 mile service cost me $105 with them putting Amsoil in. I have them do it because if for any reason something happens it falls back on them.

I think it is just wrong that these people like your dealer treat their customers that way. I would post their name so that others can decide if they want to do business with them. I would like to know because if I ride in that area and need something, I'll know to look elsewhere. I'd even write a letter to Suzuki letting them know what kind of people they are franchizing and who they are letting represent them.

The dealer Im talking about is Yamahah, Suzuki, Sea Doo of Charleston on Dorchester Rd in North Charleston,SC. I'm sure this dealer may have some very good qualities if you search hard enough. The dealer I finally went to and had great and friendly service from was Luke's Suzuki in Moncks Corner, SC. There are 3 Luke's dealers in the Charleston area, all owned by the same people with the same friendly service. They recommended the shop in Moncks corner even though it was a little distance away because they specialized in Suzuki there.
