Angry Are your Exhaust Pipes discolored?

My 2005 Suzuki S83 Boulevard with 3000 miles on it has discolored exhaust pipes. They range from black to blue to yellow from the heads down.

I took it to the local Suzuki dealer who said the bike ran fine and nothing was wrong with it. They also told me that they called Suzuki and they were informed that it was a common thing to take place with the bike.

I'm curious as to how many people have experienced this problem and what they've done or have been able to get Suzuki to do about it.

I think Suzuki owes us a free fix to keep the chrome looking good since they were aware of it from the beginning.

I just replaced my stock pipes and they have some bronzing. You just can't see it because of the heat shield.

There are three Intruders in my driveway right now, two 800s and a 1400. On all three the pipes got a little gold color to them, right where they came out of the heads. A little "Blue Job" cleaner takes it right off.
If your pipes turn black or dark blue, check the adjustment of the choke. If it is not adjusted right the bike will run rich and discolor the pipes. Also, you should never drive the bike with the choke on: push the choke in as soon as the bike starts or the pipes will discolor.

Try the Blue Job on yours. My buddy's 1500LC had a very bad black spot on the pipes when he bought it, but a little Blue Job and some elbow grease took it right off.

nothing on my pipes, but it could just all be covered by the heat shields.

I wipe mine down with Flitz polish and it removes all the heat discoloration, whether blue or bronze. I picked it up from the show bike people. Blue usually indicates running rich, unburned fuel burnng in the pipes. My own C50 does get much so I only have to remove the heat discoloration a couple of times a year and it takes less than 5 minutes, mostly to find a rag. Clint

25k on my Yammie, and ya' the pipes are discolored.... Probably (partially) because when I hop on, I don't get off until I run out of fuel, and the pipes tend to get a little warm if you ride like I do.

Every now, and again I'll get pissed off about the blueing, and have found that Blue Job (a rubbing compound) works fairly well, and dosen't leave scratches on the chrome. You would probably be able to find it in your local bike shop, but if not, their web-site is www.blue-job.com.

No problem as of yet....low miles on the pipes, but will probably be saying the same thing down the road.

Nothing yet after 4100 miles on my C-50 but I still have stock pipes on. Planning on putting on V & H Straghtshots w/Viper tips as soon as $$$ allows me too.
