Default Found a Honda, should I wait????

I am looking for a crusier around 3000 bucks. I really like the Marauders but today I found a Honda 750 Shadow Ace. Has anyone owned one of these bikes before? Anything I need to know? Are they crap? Thanks for the input!

The Shadow is a good bike from what I've heard. We have at least another member who has one...

Most motorcycles today properly maintained are as good as cars. If you like it and it's in good shape go for it, but if you really want a maruader you need to wait because it will last along time too.

About two years ago my 96 Intruder 800 finally gave out, after 135,000 miles. A woman in my riding club had a ACE 750 she offered to me cheap, as she was pregnant and giving up riding. It was black, lowered, with a custom seat and with lots of aftermarket goodies, and it was without a doubt one of the best looking bikes I ever laid eyes on. They have a great reputation for reliability, so I bought it immediately.

And I HATED it!

Performance wise, it sucked. Acceleration was about equal to a turtle with three missing legs. I had trouble keeping up with cars, let alone another bike, and the handling was not very impressive either. I felt like I was really fighting it in the corners, and like I needed to get off and push it up hills. I sold it after about 2 months and bought another Intruder.

I would not recommend the 750 ACE to anyone but a beginner rider, as an experienced rider will get bored quickly and be frustrated by the lack of power.

I am a beginner rider. This will be my first bike. Was it slow period, or was it slow because of your prior experience. My question is, as a starter bike is it a good buy?

The shadow will be a good bike.
But the best thing is to take an MSF course first, as they loan you a bike. Some people buy bikes and never ride them as they find it is not to their liking.

What year, how many miles, have you or someone you know taken it for a test ride?

nevermind, I went to look at it earlier today and the chrome is half rusted, it doesnt look very well cared for, and its an ugly puke green and cream two tone. The man neglected to tell me that it was an Ace Deluxe. I thought it was just an ace

Had it been decently maintained, it probably would've been a decent bike as a beginner bike. But, now that you've seen and decided otherwise, keep looking! there's always tons of bikes out there.

And yes, please take the beginner's MSF course. It's not boring or embarassing... they really care about teaching you the fundamentals so you can be a good, smart, safe rider. The rest comes with experience. I had 12 people in my MSF class. I was a beginner along with 5 others. the other 6 people were all experienced riders who were just taking it again because it's so valuable and to make sure they hadn't developed any bad habits. We ALL learned a ton.

Have fun, be safe, take your time deciding on a bike... and by all means take the MSF!

Best,
Daryl

Ok, I am going to take everyones advice and take the MSF course. What is the price of that course, or is it state sensitive? Thanks for the advice, it must be a great thing to do because everyone is so adamant about it. Wish me luck on my bike search!

The course price is diff. price wise in diff. states.

The course provides theory and hands on exp., gives you an oppertunity to decide if riding is for you without the outlay for a bike.

right on! I bought one earlier this year to sell for profit. Man those things have less balls then my neutered dog. I'm not gonna lie. It was fun to ride a cruiser for a bit again, but cornering was a peg scraper on every turn and you had to really goose it in the low gears to get anything from the motor. They are good reliable bikes, but my 800 marauder would have blown the fenders off that thing.

I have two buddies that have the Shadow, one has the Ace, other has the Aero. I've never driven them, but they like them. They are bullet proof mechanically. Probably be a great beginner bike.
