It's just as easy as that too, I used this video as a guidline when I did mine. However it would be a different animal for your 90 wouldn't it?

great video.... Im going to save some cash not having to buy pipes but Do you have to rejet after taking the baffles out.. I noticed some sort of restriction left in the pipe so im assuming there is enough back pressure.. Its not like I would be bolting on some long shots or something....

It doesn't affect it either way, just makes it sound a lot better. I mean A LOT better too. I don't even really want aftermarket pipes now cause it sounds so good de-baffled.

Thanks for the compliments, folks. Glad the little vid continues to help people out.

I have been trying to figure out why my bandwidth usage has gone absolutely though the roof in the last couple of months. This thread might have something to do with it.

another happy customer here!! Thanks whoever for posting that video!! I took the advice of some and went ahead and disconnected the battery while doing the debaffle, and so far so good. Sounds great, no noticeable difference in performance, bike still runs great, etc. I did however burn up my 20+ yr old craftsmen drill doing this. I felt by far the hardest part was to drill through that back plate, breaking the welds with the dowel rod was really easy (Maybe 5 mins).

I did that to my 2006 C50 and the pipes were not as loud as the video. BUT it now has a cool little rumble to it.

Go ahead and do it, it shouldn't hurt it at all. Just don't over rev just to listen to the pipes until you get it broken in.

If your bike was new like mine, then you probably have the same situation as I do.. The pipes and bike in general are not broke in yet. My cousin and I did ours at the same time, he has an 05 with around 5k on it and his are louder than mine because of the mileage I assume (mine is an 06 with around 350miles).

I did mine with only around 300 miles on it, I havent noticed any difference in the way it runs since I did it around 2 weeks ago. Do it, you'll like it. Sounds pretty much perfect for me.

Hey Lyd,
You have no idea how much your video is talked about and it has helped people. Thanks for taking the time like you did.

Default Debaffling effect on ears, ECU or FI?

I love my M50! Worst gripes are no tach, 6th gear or turn signal cancelling. Otherwise I love it. The water cooled engine is awesome on hot days when my Harley pals start getting worried and over-heating in stopped traffic. The bike gets a lot of looks and compliments. I took off all the decals and plaques, added a seatback for the wife and a back carrying rack for my briefcase. We have taken some long rides (3 hours) and I have now ordered an after-market Mustang seat for our bony rear ends. The bike does 80 mph on the highways here in Connecticut with no vibration other than typical road surface feedback and it is smooth and responsive. I was tired of not hearing my bike over the wind and other bikes so I drilled eight holes in each of the baffles. Not satisfied, I the debaffled the pipes by following the video by Lyd. Crap drill smoked but got her done. I then realized how you can get crazy with after market EFI add-ons if read too much and you then start to sweat the ramifications of debaffling too much. But the concensus I have read is that by just debaffling the stock pipes you won't rob your bike of any noticeable amount of power, and there is no need to adjust or remap the ECU unless you just have to do it to sleep well. The bike sounds a lot better debaffled but still no low Harley idle rumble, but that's cool. I think the need to remap the ECU applies to increasing the air intake or going with new straight pipes with no crossover, not just the debaffling of the stock pipes. If anyone (a seasoned Suzuki bike dealer mechanic would be nice) knows the real straight dope on the need to remap the ECU and/or add an after-market FI controller with debaffled pipes I would love to hear the no bull reality. I want to avoid endless upgrades and spend my dough on gas so if I can skip it I will. We'll see! Tomorrow I ride and pray it runs well and there is not a lot of backfires etc. Biker waves to all.

Completely removed baffles re the Lyd video method last night unto the wee hours on my 2005 M50. Did the test ride today. Power is up! Before with just 8 drilled holes in the baffles I realize now that cost me power and caused backfires. This removal resulted in noticeable clean running and better power. My test was to accelerate in 5th gear up a steep hill with a passenger. With 8 drilled holes in the baffles of each pipe I had to down shift at 55-60 mph as the bike would not accelerate past that speed in 5th gear. It is a long steep grade, about 1 mile up a mountain and straight. Today with the same load and conditions in 5th gear it just kept climbing through 60 mph up through 70 mph and on. I had to slow for traffic or it would have gone right up to top speed, way faster than safe anyway. Burned up the cheap drill and arbor I used to cut out the baffles and bent the hole saw, but I returned all that junk to Home Depot today for a full refund. So my cost for the whole mod was 0$ to debaffle. Just some busted knuckles and blistered hands from that cheap drill. So I say the FI reset myth is busted. Debaffling the stock pipes optimized my M50's sound and power without any need to adjust the ECU or FI. Now I can really hear my bike, and she sounds good. And I'm no longer worried it will hurt performance. It helped for sure.

Default How much of a noise difference is there

When debaffling? I would like mine a little louder but not obnoxious like some of the Harley's I hear.

I think the one thing I'm hesitant about is that once it's done it's done so I don't want to do it until I'm sure I'll be happy with it.

I leave for work at 5:30am and was worried about the same thing so I drilled holes first. That wasn't quite what I was looking for so I pulled the baffles and it was great. Just loud enough that you hear the pipes and not the engine while riding but not loud enough to anger your neighbors. Just in case I always get into second pretty quick and just cruise out of the neighborhood. I did mine shortly after the 600 mile service, but if your bike is new, some people have also suggested waiting for a couple thousand miles while your pipes are still changing. Where are you at in AZ? If you really wanted to be sure I'd be more than happy to meet somewhere so you could hear them.

edit: duh I see now that you are in Chandler, I'm in East Mesa (Ellsworth and the 60).

Default Pipe tunes

I took a Step bit - 1" - Drilled 5 max sized holes in each pipe.

Sounds pretty good - hmm I like it..

Then

I took my wife for a all day cruz along the coast here in Nova Scotia. Speeds were slow, lots of traffic 30-45 mph. Then rode from the South Shore across Nova Scotia to the Fundy Shore. The run between shores was 60 miles at 55-65 mph. Then the final section home was all highway at 70-80 mph. This trip was aprox 180 miles, and half way through I was getting a head pounder from all the noise.
So I would like to do the de-baffle but I dont know if I could handle the volume over a long run.........
