Smile 1st bike purchase 03 volusia

Hello,
I am new to the bike world. I just purchased my first bike (03 suzuki volusia) and was wondering if any owners had any advice about the bike. I made the decision to purchase it over a 06 Harley sportster because I felt more comfortable on the suzuki. The sales men were very nice and of course told me I made a GREAT purchase for someone who was just learning to ride. I just wanted to know if anyone could give the REAL on the bike....it was a good deal price wise and the bike looks great and not having the knowledge I felt I made a ok decision.
Thanks!

If you get more than 50 miles on it this week, you made a good choice. Welcome!

I agree, good choice, I've had no issues with mine. Its a bit cold blooded but you get used to it.

Rider4Life:

Me, too! My first bike was my '06 C50T. Bought it last November and have over 3,000 miles on it already. I can honestly say that you made an EXCELLENT choice, especially over the Harley. I rode my buddy's Sportster, and besides the obvious power advantage due to having 50% more motor, I really didn't like the ride of the Sportster. Too skinny and VERY bouncy. She still comments on how much better mine rides than her Sportster. I couldn't wait to switch back and get back on my bike.

The Volusia/Boulevard line from Suzuki are virtually bullet-proof; same goes for Yamaha and Honda's comparable lines of bikes. I've found by Blvd to be very forgiving in the clutch and throttle departments, and the comfort of the ride is very good, even with the stock seats (though Mustang seats are the way to go if you have the means $$$). Pretty much just follow the manufacturer's maintenance intervals, and you're good=to-go.

One hint I took from the elders and the "much more knowledgable than me" here and on www.volusia-riders.com is: remove and reinstall as many bolts as you can using "blue" Locktite. If you don't go this route, you at least owe it to yourself to wrench as many nuts/bolts as you can after the first 300-500 miles. Never hurts to make sure those factory-installed nuts/bolts are holding true out here in the real world. So, get yourself as set of sockets or T-wrenches with Allen-head fittings and go to town!

FYI: here's a couple of very good, competitively priced outlets for maintenance items, "bling", and performance products: (example: $21 oil filter from the stealership is $6.86 @ Oneida!):

www.187rideeasy.com or call Eric Wright directly @ 1-866-392-4531 in Ohio;

www.oneidasuzuki.com or call their toll-free # on their website and ask for their internet sales guy. Both places will price match; but Eric @ Xtreme Suzuki is MUCH better on shipping costs than Oneida.

That should getcha started for now...
Cheers,
Daryl

wow!! Thanks for all the great information. You are so right about the envy by Sportster owners. My boyfriend has an 03 1200 custom and is always trying to get on mine now.......how funny Thanks for the websites too, it is hard to find good websites with accessories for the Suzuki line. I have put almost 200 miles on and my car has been parked for 4 days straight so I am VERY happy with the purchase.....The bike handles amazingly well.

That's the most stiking thing about my '05 C50 blvd.. it simply doesn't hav any bad habits in the handling & drivability department. Throttle and clutch are very smooth, and the it just goes down the road without any worry. I've done several long-ish day trips (100-200 miles), and the only worry was where to stop for lunch.

There are a few other people on the forum here from the springs. One of these days we will all have to go for a ride.

That would be great!!! If we can get a break on the weather. I guess I shouldn't complain it has been nice a warm for a while now but these last couple of days have really limited my riding.
