Default 3 More Hours..

Until I take delivery on my new C50!! (blue/gray)

I went through the MSF course 2 weeks ago, so I am ready for this. I plan on keeping close to home for a few days (parking lot maneuvers & low speed drills learned from MSF), then venture short trips on the highway, just one or two exits then backroads home.

I just read the "Break in or Not" post in the lobby, I think I will change the oil after 20-50 miles or so, & not "baby" the engine but not beat it either. It made sense to me about flushing the free floating particles not caught in the filter out early on.

This site has been an invaluable source of information, thank you all. Will post pics when the wife comes back from Myrtle Beach with the camera.

"Remember the first 100 miles or so the tires will be a little slipprier until they are scrubbed in"

Isn't that what the burnouts and wheelies are for? (92Notch)

Friggin' weathermen, yesterday not a hint of rain in sight for the next 10 days, looked at it this morning, chance of scattered thunderstorms each day. Guess I'll be buying that rainsuit sooner than later.

Oh well, it's ALL good!

See, that's what I love about this site, the support.

Signed with progressive this morning, $157 for the year!

Told my boss I was leaving to pick up my bike, his response, "so what are you still doing here?"

So I called and it's not ready yet!

Can't...hold on...much...longer......

When I went to pickup mine, they had not shipped the SE parts for it. So I did not take it until all the parts were there.

I had already turned my Wing over to them, was tempted but waited.

So when you get it, you will enjoy even more.

Waiting is the pitts.

+1!!!! Called the dealer the night before about the bike that I paid for a week before to have it ready first thing Saturday morning when I get there at 9:00 in the morning.

I show up at 10:00 am on Saturday. Now the previous Monday I bought it and told him I would pick it up on Saturday. I called Friday and reminded him I would be there and in a hurry Saturday.

Not ready,, had to wait two hours. Sheesh.

So what was the trade off ? A new Bike for you and a trip to Myrtle Beach for the Wife ? If your going to dump the oil at 20-50 then do the filter too. I did mine at 100 miles, I also have couple of strong button magnets that I leave on the oil filter on the bottom and transfer to the new filter when changing oil and filter, Yes I am anal about the oil.

Congrats, I know the manual says breaking in period is 600 miles, but it wont come into it's own until 3500-4000 miles, performance and smoothness wise.

Default Sandman's first ride

First, let me start off by saying...Aahhhh!

And I thought the wait was bad at work, I think I hit EVERY red light on the way there.

Although a bit apprehensive, I decided to jump right in and ride the bike from the stealership instead of having them deliver it to my home. (The salesmen will do this as a courtesy, as long as you live within a reasonable distance.) Bastards don't even start you off with a full tank of gas, I wasn't 2 miles from the dealership when the gas light came on! I know I had plenty , but The trip home is only 5-6 miles of backroads with only a few major intersections mixed in.

Observation #1 - Get a Kisan SignalMinder ASAP, Of those 5-6 miles home, I left a turning indicator on for AT LEAST half of the trip, and the indicator light for this is out of the normal field of view while wearing a full face helmet. (My second helmet will be a Nolan N-42 3/4 with a full shield.)

Observation #2 - get thee to a parking lot for clutch practice. I have the most difficulty starting off..I feel I have to give it more throttle than I should to keep it from stalling before releasing completely. This is not a clutch you can "ride" up to speed then release like the 250's I practiced with at MSF. (1st gear issue only). Other than this, shifting is very smooth.

Observation #3 - I need a windshield for windy days. It was windy here yesterday, gusts up to 23mph. After I went home & geared up, I went up to the parking lot for 15 minutes of clutch and slow SMOOTH(er) stopping practice, then out on the road. I have a nice loop that consists of roughly 2.5 miles interstate and 3.5 miles backroad. The backroads were ok as the trees blocked alot of the gusts, but on the interstate I felt it all. Yes my grip may have been overly tight, and yes, my torso acted like the main sail on a ship, but I was very pleased with the way the bike tracked. I was not blown all around as I thought I might be.

All in all, I rode a little over 30 miles yesterday, backroads, interstate (NON rush hour and only for a short distance) various speeds - from stop & go traffic, to cruising to highway. For me, it was a great well rounded experience, which is what I was looking for in a first ride.

Danr thanks for the magnet on the filter idea! I will put one on when I get home.

Hey Danr,, wasn't there a company that used to make slip on magnets for oil filters at one time????

Congratulations on your new bike. When I went to pick up my new M50, it was sitting outside in the back and it had rained on it the night before so it was covered in spots. I'm riding it home and the reserve light comes on, WTF...... There all the same...stealers....

Hey, it gets better.

Talk to your dealer about a package deal on windshield, backrest and saddlebags. You will not regret it.

Get in the habit, as you are coming out of the turn, just click the signal
control. After a few days it becomes automatic.

ISO grips will ease the hand tension, used with a throttle boss, even better.

BLING BLING BLING

I am heading to Vegas this week end and will be looking at a Nolan 42, as I want that dark flip visor.

Enjoy!!!!!
