Default Weekend ride in the Smokies

I was able to go to the Smokies this weekend and enjoy some great riding. I had to dodge some storms, but the rides I got in around them were great. I recommend you go if you get a chance. I am posting a pic of my bike at Klingmans Dome. (If it works.)

That is where we will be going through in June. You could ease your pain of missing the mountains that weekend.

I also went to a mountain this weekend. Mt. Magazine here in Arkansas. The tallest mountain in Arkansas!!! There is a little restaurant up there that hosts a bike rally and poker run every year (7th annual). Awesome sight seeing and perfect weather and a 84 mile poker run.

There was this one Mountain in Arkansas that we went over one time called Mt. St. Petite Jean??? Anyways I remember the grade being one of the steepest I have ever seen as a kid.

I miss riding in the mountains. I get to look at Pikes Peak everyday, and in June, I'll be able to ride up Ute pass once again, but this time, on an M109R

BTW, first post, and i love this board!!

Now that you've got the camera figured out, how bout splurging a little with more than just one mountain shot.

It was a pleasure to share the pics with you guys. It is a shame I could not share the ride.

Is this anywhere near Mt. Mitchell? I was there about 2 years ago, and it was beautiful...looks just like the pics you posted.

pneblett and BlueM109R you guys should come down to Gatlinburg for the Motorcycle-Journal.com ride days gathering.

BlueM109R, These pics are from near the Tenn-NC border in the Smokies, not far from Gatlinburg, TN. I do not know where Mt MItchell is, so I can't say if it is close.
stp1971, that ride sounds great. I would love to do that, but alas, I can't schedule it. I have never done a big group ride like that. I hope sometime I can get in with you guys.

Thanks for the nice pics, that area (once you get away from Gatlinburg traffic) is just beautiful. My GF's parents live near there, so that's always a great excuse!

I've seen it mentioned a few times and have been thinking about going. Ironically, my parents are in Gatlinburg right now..I'm so jealous!

About the ride, I'm not sure if I'm up for that long of a ride to get there, and none of my riding buddies can go..they all have kids/can't get time off.

Since I'm new to this, what kinds of things go on at these rides? Would they be fun for a single rider or do most people bring family/friends? My first impression is that it'll consist of more than one group ride, is this correct?

Thanks for the info and pardon my ignorance, I've never done a group ride so...

This ride will basically be a big get together. Actually this is the first official ride of the forum. A chance to be a part of something cool. There will be couples and singles there. We all plan on meeting up and hitting the town on Friday evening. Just a we bit of partying that evening.

Saturday we have a pretty great route planned with PLENTY of twisties and the infamous Dragon's Tail as part of it. Then ending back up in Gatlinburg that evening. More partying and then Sunday everyone goes their separate ways.

It is going to be a blast. Check out the thread in the events and rides section. There you will find the lodging info, the route, and an up to date list of attendees.

Would love to have you all join us!!!!
