Traysvega, my dealer did the same thing. I informed them there has been a problem with the oil being overfilled and mine had to much as well. I have a little over 200 miles on her and just changed the oil and getting ready to change the rears oil. Just a little hint about changing the oil, get the Suzuki oil filter cap (tool). I had to use a line wrench to remove the oil filter. You can not fit a ratchet on the cap, not enough room. Plus when you put the new one on it says once hand tight, turn it two revolutions more.

I was thinking that your tire in the picture looked backwards....I think when I pick mine up I'm going to check 1) the front tire 2) the oil for myself, once it's warm!

Got to love attention to detail. I just bought that V-Strom and they did their sale checklist,, get home the next day and decide to ride it. Just thought maybe I should check my air pressure,,, 14 psi in the front and 24 in the rear. Yep,, supposed to be 33 front and 36 in the rear. To think I rode it 45 miles with low air pressure.

I was going to take it back for the firstr service there but I decided otherwise. Oh well,,, thing that bugs me is if you don't take it in for the first service then they (Suzuki) try to get out of warranty repair I hear. it is their out.

Makes you wonder if the first service is anything more than an oil change and filter....

I wanted to get a M109R too. But started looking at the fact that I wanted a smaller bike to play on and get good commuter gas mileage. Since I already have the LC and I am not selling it the V-Strom won out.

Good luck with the first year kinks.

The tire in the pic is backward compared to mine. Even the pics on the web site show the tire in opposite direction. Might want to check that out.

ok, picked mine up today finally, and after reminding them 4 times about the backwards wheel and overfilled oil, I'm assured they know what they're doing, and this won't happen to me.

Famous last words.

15 minutes later when I pull in and shut it off, I notice oil sprayed down the left side, and oil dripping out of the left air intake. I'm so F***ing pissed! They were so cocky telling me that they knew what they were doing, and would never make this kind of mistake...It's disgusting that even with warnings they didn't bother to check simple things like the oil level.

well, they sent a flatbed towtruck to return it to the dealership and repaired it today. Get it back tomorrow.

.
Changed mine yesterday by myself. Thats exactly why I don't take it to a shop unless there is something that I can't do myself or its warranty work. It takes a whole 2 minutes to look in the book and see it only takes 3.8 qts of oil. Being a new bike, you'd think that they would read the book instead of just assuming they know everything.

I'm with you Ditch. I was looking at the first service in the book, do you know the torque specs on the Exhaust pipe bolts, muffler bolts and the chassis bolts and nuts (and which chassis bolts and nuts they are)?

So, got it back today, rode it another 15 minutes home and leaking more oil! This is crazy. I'm so upset I can't see straight

BlueM109R, an admin could have easily changed your user name. I used to log in as "kskruiser" until I asked nicely. PM any of the available admins and see if they can merge your BlueM109R and SilverM50 accounts.

Try to catch the oil in a clean bucket, then measure it out with an old qt jug and put in 4 qts. Screw the mechanics there and find yourself someone else to work on the bike for you.

That's what I'm thinking too...this has been unbelievable.

Do ya'll think it's necessary to change out the air filters too, or will they be okay like they are? I don't imagine they're available yet...

Thanks for the info EZridr1, I looked for a way to do it myself but couldn't find one so I just created this new nickname.

If you have oil in your air filters I would IMHO change them. It probably wouldn't hurt it too much but you might suck oil into your air intake then and it would smoke.

I know in cars I have had that the PCV valve screwed up or their was too much blowby,, oil would go up into the air filter housing and then it would suck oil into the intake causing the vehicle to smoke. Once all the oil cleared out of the system it would stop.

Will sucking the oil into the cyclinders hurt it??? Probably not,, but if the bike starts smoking some then you will know why probably.

But then again,, that is also why they tell you not to over oil your K&N air fliters as well. One of the biggest problems with people using K&N filters is that they over oil the filters and it causes it to foul the plugs and screw up the O2 sensor. A small amount won't hurt it,, but alot will.

So I guess what I am trying to say is just how much oil is in there is the factor. Plus if you have a paper filter it is not good to have a saturated oily filter. So I would probably change it if it was me. And I would go to the dealer and make them give me a new one.

K, 3.8 QUARTS????

I think that's high - don't have the manual here but I thought it was 3.2 litres w/o filter and 3.4 with. Sounds like you're a bit high with the oil.

(now I gotta go home and read that again)

today the dealership drained all the oil and refilled it to specs (3.5 liters which is very close to 3.5 qts so either way...). Cleaned the housing and left the original filters as they claim they're high enough up in the housing to be oil free. The service manager performed all the work, fyi. Says he then warmed it up and checked it according to the manual and it was correct.

Then he took it for a spin around town. When he came back it was dripping oil again. So, they're at a loss now. They're wondering if there's some type of valve problem and they "have a call into suzuki technical support". They are supposed to know something tommorrow.

I still think they don't know what they're doing...seems too common a problem with so many other m109 owners but we'll see.
