Default Problem with vs800 forklock

I was wondering if anyone else had problems with the forklock that is on the vs800.

I've read the manule but still can't get it to lock.

When I press in I can't get it to turn back clockwise. Anyone ideas?

I too noticed my fork lock is hard to engage. Try giving it a squirt with WD-40 and see if that helps.

Default Fork lock

I have found that you have the have the wheel turned at the right angle.
It is not turned all the way, but just short of full turned. I have trouble sometimes, but usualy goes right in. I would have to see your bike to be of any more help.

Thanks guys, both ideas worked great. I used a bit of WD-40 and you're right, the wheel needs to be turned about 3mm to engage the lock.

Now it's working like a champ!

Guess you've figured out the push in and turn bit, just be careful not to turn back to that last notch - the parking light. Perfect recipe for a dead battery.

Hmmm. Never thought of that. On my VZ800, the fork lock is separate and uses a different key. Which explains why I hardly ever use it.

I like it a lot. It's a new '03 I bought maybe 4 months ago. I got it for $1000 below sticker, no freight or setup, since it was the last '03 the dealer had. I've been riding since 1973 and it's one of the the nicer bike I've owned (out of 7). I mainly ride it to work on the 4-lane (60 miles round trip) and it hums along at 65 or 70 with no problem. I do plan to switch the front sprocket to a 16-tooth to drop the rpm a bit, as I sometimes find myself looking for a sixth gear.

The bike is silver, which isn't my favorite color but the price was right. In the flush of my new purchase, I had the dealer install the OEM windshield, which was a big mistake. It's only 15 inches tall and I'm 6'6". After a few days I took it off. I plan to replace it with something of appropriate size in the Spring.
