Default Cruising Range Question

Gents, those in the know, will you tell me what I can expect from a 04 Marauder 1600. This is the same as the M95 and Mean Streak. It has a 4.5 gallon tank. How far either per gallon or tank, much appreciated, Tim.

According to reviews I've read it runs out of gas, on average, at 159 miles.

Assuming a cruising speed of about 65-75, I'd think you should expect about 40 MPG, therefore getting about 180 miles to empty.

I don't think 40 MPPG should be a big trick on that bike.

I get 150 and you can forget about that .5 gallons I have never put more then 4 gallons and I have coasted into the gas station. I dont think the tank design or the fuel pick up was desigend to allow you to completly drain the tank.

That is what I needed to know, and thanks. The bike is supposed to have a low fuel warning, how close to empty is it when that warning starts??

Mine lights up in the 90 to 100 mile range. I'm too skeered to see how far I can push it though - unlike drgibson. I'm afraid I would literally be "pushing" it, and though it handles like it is a lot lighter than it is, I don't want to have to push it very far. Word is that the light is usually a bit early, so you have a some time left before you burn shoe leather.

FWIW, I have a '06 C50T that has a 4.1 gallon tank and I also have NEVER put more than 3.5 gallons in, even when I pushed the envelope on the freeway between gas stations. The low fuel light came on and I went about another 25-30 miles to the next gas station. Still didn't put near 4.1gallons in. I get about 150-160 miles on a tankful, but I usually try to refuel as soon as possible when the light comes on (usually around the 120-mile mark on the odometer). I have a big fear/dread of running out of gas. That'd suck!

Default This brings up a question I have had

Since filling a motorcycle is nothing like filling a cage, the auto shut off on the pump seems useless.

So forgive me if this seems like a real stupid question (especially after 3,000 miles already), but how do you fill the beast up? I have already had 2 unpleasent experiences with gas leaking out the gas cap and wish not to repeat it.

Many thanks!

Joe

Maybe try a "Full Serve" station?

Could switch your bike to propane too I guess...?

Dunno, I'm running out of ideas here...

hhmmmmmmmm.....Never filling it above the bottom of the filler neck of the tank might help.

Two words: bean burritos.

We are talking about gas, aren't we?

The gas coming out of the pump is quite cool, and it will expand in the tank as it warms up, specially if you park it in the sun. If you are going to park the bike right after filling it, don't fill right to the top. If you are going to get on it , and ride at least another 20 miles, it shouldn't be a problem.

Suzuki Joe:

First, there's no such thing as a stupid question here, so long as it's something you truly need to know and/or you need help from others here.

Second, ok to your answer: I have found that filling the tank to the bottom of the filler neck is a safe place to stop. Any higher up and you're likely to get spillage. The hardest part of filling up here in CA is those darn rubber "accordion" neck covers on the gas pumps. They get in the way when trying to eyeball the level of the gas in the m/c tank.

You'll get the hang of it...

Best,
Daryl
