Default New Member---Great Site!!

Hello to all, I was just looking for a place to hang out after my experience yesterday. I have a 19 yr old who is on track to get a new bike, and has been asking me to go and look around, well guess what?? I got bit just like he did. Man the new cruisers are simply breathtaking. We looked at Kaws, Hondas, and Suzukis. I really was loving the Mean Streak, but the rear fender of the VTX 1300c, and the s83 Suzuki was what turned my crank, lo and behold, I mentioned the Mean Streak to our Suzuki dealer, as I understood from research the bike was a dual effort from Kaw and Suzuki. He said he had a Mean Streak, an 04. He actually meant he had a 04 Marauder 1600, fully rigged with winshield, bags and xtra set of front running lights. This bike is still brand new with 11.8 miles on it. Full warranty. I was marked $8499.00 and was everything I was wanting. I plunked down a deposit, and came home and started running adds to sell off a few items so the loan will hopefully be half of the total. I am pumped and had to tell somebody!!!!!!!

Awesome! Welcome to the madness. What's your son's situation since he's the one who started it all?

His friend whom he was closest to worked for me and learned the cabinet installation trade, went out and found a job at another shop and has been doing well enough to buy a Honda CBR 600RR. My son has a Suzuki LTZ 400 4 wheel sport bike, and likes Suzuki products as I do also. My son wants a GSXR 600. I keep telling him and pointing him to the other cruser type bikes, but he keeps turning back, I hope he changes his mind. A 19 yr old and a tachometer that tops out at 13,700 spells trouble. At least to his Dad.

Welcome Tim... It will not be long and you will be customizing it for yourself. I have an 05 M-95. It is essentially a Meanie with a few cosmetic changes.

http://www.kawasakimotorcycle.org/forum/index.php this is another fine resource and a bunch of great people.

Thanks for the welcome, I saw pictures of your beautiful bike. The 04 Marauder seems to be somewhat like the M95. In researching the Mean Streak and the 04 Marauder, I noticed a difference in FI bore size. The Meanie has 36`s and the Marauder has 40`s. Also, I had the dealer crank the bike, he was worried the battery might be down so it has not been run for ages. There was more engine nose than expected, but saw on another site this can be common, is this correct??

Welcome aboard, I know you can led a horse to water but you can't make them drink.

You son may still listen to you, but he still want to be his own man. Give him reason, but it is still his decision on style of bike.

Welcome.

We need more big bore bikes in here. I wanna also encourage your son to get a good starter bike. If it has an R rating isn't a starter bike. I doesn't mater how much experiance riding in the dirt have. As to the engine noise I have heard that it is an issue but have yet to have a problem except under a load. And that is to be expected.

I trust the boy, just dont want the 2 friends to get in a dare. I know his friend has not done well with driving cars, but my son has had no incidents. Just common concerns. I really like the 04 Marauder, and am looking forward to that fine day to get to bring it home. There were many bikes with certain features I wanted, and felt maybe there was a bike out there with all of the ones I wanted, well this one has them all. I wanted FI, aluminum wheels, shaft drive, hydrolic clutch, rear disc brake, enough power to be fun.

This is my 4th bike, but many years since the last one. I fully understand your concerns, and appreciate them more than you realize. I want to be able to ride double with wife on board, but will not do this till I feel my confidence is where it needs to be. The reason for going with a big machine was due both of us will ride often later in the summer. I am older/wiser than ever, but the 19 yr old cannot be taught experience, you have to learn that, and a motorcycle is so unforgiving when errors are involved. I will show him this post, as it may make a difference coming from somewhere besides me. He is aware of the classes because I have heard him mention them. Great idea to say the least. drgibson, my bike is set up very similar to yours. I would like to know what seat you have as it looks good for a passenger, also the sissy bar, please.

The seat is a mustang The Sissy bar if made by Mapam. While it looks good the wife doesn't think it is very comfortable (the sissy bar). So I am going to fit a different pad on it. If you are looking for parts I'd suggest contacting XtremeDave. You can find his info here.

Drgibson, did you need to replace the fender strut covers to install that backrest?

Hello Tim in TN, and congrats on your Marauder 1600. Although you trust your son, I hope he would consider a 500cc sportbike as already mentioned by Night_Wolf. These bikes are more suitable for riders that need to develop their skills and experience. Why not have your son sign up and the both of you can discuss beginner rider topics together. There are many great tips here for those interested in learning how to ride.

Good luck, ride safely, and enjoy your stay here. Keep a close eye on that credit card because you'll find yourself using it quite often, especially after seeing pictures of the other Meanies/Marauders/M95s around here.

Welcome aboard Tim, I had 20 years between bikes. My last bike was a GS750. Try to make the Dragon run on June 3, would like to see you! The post is in the rides forum.

wracing, thanks for the welcome, that might can happen. I really like the idea. I do like your bike, as it was at the top of my list till I saw the 04 Marauder, that was a strange piece of luck. It has been a long while since riding and can assure all that I will be careful, I can see the bigger picture and get a bike once that will last me instead of 2. Quicker is funner. In the right hands, at the right time, and place.

Welcome from the other end of TN Tim. You've just ran across a good group of folks here. They've been a great help to me.

I can tell there is much good experience and many good suggestions. I can`t wait till I can walk back in the cycle store with my down payment. I like to fool with rifles, hunting and target, and ran an add on another forum for parts for sale, I have raised $750.00 in the last 24 hrs, and have a good nibble on another $395.00 item. I put a fishing boat and 2 outboards in the local paper. The Marauder is on hold for 30 days till I get my $ together, I hope I didn`t pay to much at the $8499 for a 2 yr old bike with accesories.
