Default Blowin' smoke up my...

driveway! Anyway, here's my quandry.

I took my bike out last friday after a long winter's nap, with fresh mods of grips, pegs, and V&H Cruzers. I had pretty carefully winterized it, with a fresh oil change, fuel stabilizer, etc. I put the pipes on a few weeks ago, and even waited on firing it up until I knew I could ride it. The bike fired right up, I let it idle a few minutes, then off I went. I rode for about an hour, nothing crazy, just getting my "sea legs" back and enjoying the new toys. It seemed to run real well, even with no FI mod. Just a hint of gurgle on decel (always has), but no backfires or drama. I put it back in the garage all happy.

Well, a friend stopped by yesterday morning, and I had to go show it off. The bike fired right up again, except this time with a pretty good plume of black smoke. A couple revs of the engine, same thing. There seemed to be a bit of "white" smoke in there too, but it may have been steam since It was a bit cool. I have read about some "black smoke issues" from riders with FI units that need to be dialed in, but I didn't expect that with the "factory lean" condition I have. Now it's got me a bit worried, as the bike has been perfect until now. Any thoughts or input appreciated!
