Default Are you tired?

I believe that I will need to buy new tires before our little trek to Tennessee. Looking at the options for the stock size I don't appear to have that many options, however if I go from a 170mm to a 180mm I get a lot more choices. The question is will a 180 fit? On the shaft side I have about 3/4" clearance on the other there is almost 2" According to my calculations a 180 is only about 1/2" wider. Your thoughts?

They give it a good going over on the Kawi forum.

Thanks,
I'll probably go with the 180.

Good info.

My thoughts are that you worked to hard at that calculation. It's 10mm.

I'm curious. What are the other size dimensions on that tire? Will going wider change the shape of the cross-section much?

i think the metzler web site has a tire fit guide which lists what size you can move up to. the guide is model specific

It's less than 10 mm to worry about actually... 10 mm is ~ 3/8" added to the exterior circumference... 3/4" clearance on the shaft side is approx 18 mm... you'll probably reduce that clearance to about 14 or 15 mm... still well over half an inch.

Metzler tire upgrade for the M50 is a 200. They have a bike specific chart. I saw it in road rider magazine.
