Default How to raise gas mileage?

I have a stock 1400 that gets about 45 - 47 miles per gallon of gas without a lot of stop and go. With normal riding I probably average about 40 mpg. I read of others that get 50 miles plus with their 1400's.

What adjustments can I make to raise the gas mileage. With the rising price of gas, an extra 10 miles or more per gallon would be nice.

I'm not sure about their "better" mileage... Most stories get expanded by 10 to 15 percent. Like the guy on another post that claimed he was doing 130 mph on his LC1500... I have a LC1500 and I think I would be lucky to get UP to 105 on a good day with the wind at my back... Maybe he was dropping off a cliff??? My mileage varies from 36 to 38 and I have everything tuned, tires inflated as needed, etc. Maybe I could get better mileage IF I took off the hardbags, lost 20 pounds myself, only rode with the wind at my back, on and on... 45/50mpg???

I think your doing good with 45-47. YOu will find that if you rejet the bike, your mileage will go down.

well, I have 1400 intruder and get 110 miles before I pull over. That is not using the reserves.

Mostly highway at 60-70 mph.

I have cobra exhaust and jets.

I am estimating that I get 42-46 mpg.

I wish I could get a few more!

One thing you can do to help improve MPG is to limit the idle time. During the cold months when I have to let it warm up for 5 minutes I get a lot worse mileage than in the summer when I let it warm up for 20 seconds, and I can drink a lot of gas it I let it idle while I talk to someone. But short of limiting yourself to 55 MPH and never going anywhere near traffic, I think you are getting about as good as you can expect. I have gotten as high as 56MPG, but only when cruising at 45-55MPH on two-lane mountain roads with no traffic, stop signs, or stop lights.

I don't think you will do any better than 45-47 mpg on that bike. People who are claiming 50+ mpg on their 1400s most likely have poor math skills.

I have see some posts where they are stating canadian Gal. (4 liters) to standard miles. This gives them about a 6% error in the mileage. I think 4 litres is about 1.07 Gal. so if you get 45 mpg they get 48-49
