Hi Bob. Sorry to hear about the foot...new injury, or is that watermelon accident coming back to haunt you? Re: the wine...what's this about me being a month late on racking? (finally getting to it today). I asked Georges sidekick, I think his name was Bill, and he said just leave it for a month and rack it every month or so. Tell me then, with such a late start, do you have any ideas what I'm in for? Glad to hear you're back on two wheels. The weather has been great...not TOO hot. Took my wife out for a ride for 3 hours last night to Belcarra area. Beautiful night. Took the Albion ferry home. Re: the van...Was parked on Hwy 7. The spot where I fish must be a mile or so from the van. Never even heard the alarm. Even if I heard the alarm, they could take their time before I could get to them. Still driving a rental. Picked a new Ford Escape. I'm surprised, it's actually a nice little rig. Makes the wait for the van a little easier to take. I'll check in later today...fun day with the kids, then racking begins this aft. Take care Bob. Darren.

You rack from fermentation when it is stll atctive , so as the S02 acts as a barrier between the wine surface. Readings of 1.006 less than 1.020 so it is not too active. When you rack you leave some space for the final fermentation. Then you top off your wine, using a prior batch rather than diluting with water. I still have some bottles here for you plus if you need a few to top off your batch, I have. The first few times you rack you leave the sediment behind requiring topping off your rack. Air is not what you want sitting on top of the wine. That is the pitts about your Van. Had one nice day riding Monday, have been waiting for some sun as have no rain gear. Fair weather rider. How about meeting at 9am at McDondalds at Harris and Lougheed, then head out #7 to Hope, back down thru Rosedale, Popkum , Chilliwack, Vedder and Yarrow, down thru the backroads over to Zero Ave then over to King George . You can head back along 152nd to Port Mann Bridge home. 5-6 hours about 300 km. Bob |

Andrew and I have had problems getting together for a ride. Bad weather and my bad foot has cancelled 4 or 5 rides. So this an I head over to meet him. 31 km into the ride and my cluster is dead. No speedo,no idiot lights, the brake lights and headlights are working, the bike is running so I head for our meet, We then head the 50 km to my dealer, replace the fuse ride it 200" it is blown again the shop is busy. So Andrew and I carry on riding then drop the bike back at the shop to be checked. It took 14.7 ltrs in a 15.5 ltr tank so we got some miles in. Hopefully Andrew and I will get a better ride in next time. And maybe the rest of us Westcoast Riders will be around. Are you there Darren????? |

As Andrew and I were sitting there gabbing while waiting for my wife to pick me up, this fellow around my age was walking around my debadged bike, lookin perplexed, I asked him if he liked it and he said yes, what is it. I told him a C50SE. He said OH thats what I am riding, He had a 06 C50SE, but did not realize the bikes were the same as mine was debadged. |

true story, nevertheless is was a great ride. Saw some sites and learned of some excellent resturants. Waiting with Bob at the dealer ship gave me a chance to check out some future possibilities of owning a newer bike. We also witnessed a first class squid...popped a wheeley right beside us..no gear

He, He...glad you guys made the best of it and had a good ride. Bob. What's up with your bike? What's changed so that you are shorting out? Hope you get it dealt with for good. Who needs hassles like that... Got the wine racked. Bit if taste testing, and both batches are OK in the sense that they're not sour or 'off'. Was kind of choked with missing the window of opportunity there. I wanted to do everything by the book. Time will tell... Planning to head out on the river again on Wednesday. Trying for another steamrollin' spring and 2 sock's. Keep me posted fella's on a pending ride. Over the next 3 weeks or so, a workmate has been trying to arrange a ride doing the Duffy lake loop...7 hr ride heading up the canyon, thru Lillooet and down thru Pemberton/ Whistler and home. Been busy with it all, keeping teens entertained during the summer, etc. Looking forward to getting out with you guys. Take care and ride safe. Darren

On my last ride up #7, sections of it looked like a huge parking lot. Everybody is trying to get some Sockeye. Hope it is not wiring harness or ignition as per recall. I was told mine was okay. Should hear Monday. My son did the Duffy Lake Road run a few years ago, but in the opposite direction. It was one of the first ones published in the motorcycle rides directory. Good ride. |

Hi Bob. Had a good time on the river that day. 1 spring @ 21 lbs. Took my youngest daughter, which built her fishing experience and increased my quota for the day, he,he. We went away with 4 socks as well that day. We had a great time. I had planned to go this morning but it fell through. Will try again for quota on Thursday, with my daughters help. Good to hear you're back on the road. Problem fixed? I'm overdue for 6K service...may try to get her in Wed. afternoon. Rumour is the sockeye opening will be until the end of Aug. When it closes, should have more time available for a ride. Keep safe out there bud. I noticed another fatality the other day on 176th and 96 ave. Harley rider in his 50's unfortunately connected with a cage and lost the battle. Will keep in touch. Darren

Well its looks as if my riding time has come to a sudden halt. I recently had some trouble with family and had to move elsewhere..leaving me to sell my bike to put some bigger numbers in the old bank account. So within the next few weeks maybe we could set up a last ride...hopefully before the bike sells let me know if that sounds any good to you guys.

Sorry to hear about family troubles. Hopefully nothing too serious. My kids go back to school next week so riding mid week will be easier for me. Weekends are pretty full. I'm looking at a tentative ride doing the Duffey Lake Loop with a half dozen guys from work. Looking at Monday, Sept. 11. If you have your bike still and are able to swing it, that's one heck of a way to finish off a riding season. I was planning to let Blackie know as well. We plan to head east rather than up north. That way the Pemberton/ Whistler route is at the end of the trip, therefore something to look forward to at the end of the ride. Keep it in mind. I'll keep an eye on this thread in the coming weeks. All the best to you. BTW...where are you moving to?

Blackie Sorry to hear about the foot. Hope it heals up soon for you. Would be great to have you join us if the foot is up to it. Keep it in mind. I'll definitely call you soon for a shorter ride. With the kids going back to school soon, and sockeye/ spring season ending prolly mid Sept., more time will open up. When is your insurance good until? Are you parking the bike over the winter months? I'm debating about leaving mine insured all year again, and investing in heated vest and gloves. BTW...Bob, I forgot to tell you about my collision. On my last trip to the river...03:00 am, on a clear night. Out of nowhere, a coyote darts in my path. I swerved to the left, hoping to give him time to head back into the bush. Instead he darts further into my path. Doing 110 Km's, I was able to brake just to the edge of skidding. Felt bad about the hit, but I couldn't do anything about it. Of course, being a MC rider, was a wake-up call to say the least. Hate to think about what the experience would've been like had I been on the M. Take care Bob.

Now your killing poor Coyote on your way to deplete our poor Sockeye population. Local natives will really be after you. Next ride you are in front of me. My father was a commercial Fisherman for most of his life, my cousins all are. I worked a packer when I was 13, we were off the westcoast of Van. Island, a full load was 125,000lbs. We would sit in a harbour waiting for the Seiners to find the fish, sometimes for a few days, then they would hit the run and they would head to us with hardly any freeboard left, sometimes 1 tied up to each side as we worked to empty them till we had no freeboard left. We would run into closest cannery dump and head back out. $25 bucks a day and all the fish you could eat. Being the crews were all Norsk, that was all they ate. Other than Fish and chips, I have not eaten fish for 50 years. My cousins kept sending me fish and after Mom died I told them that, I think I have been disowned. |
