It was a great ride there and back. Must admit test riding the Vstar 1300 was equally great. I liked the clutch and smooth transmission a lot, it shifts with a strong but not loud sound.

How was the comparison to the C50?

I ordered a shift lever bushing from GMan ind. to see if it helps with the C50.

Comparison? as far as power, can't compare since it's 1300 vs 800. Didn't like the instrument panel, installed on the handle bars, it was hard to see the speedo. Seat wasn't as comfy as C50's but thought could get used to it. Slow speed handling was just fine, cornering at speeds I ride also fine, [really liked the route, a little bit of everything], acceleration, very very fast and no vibration.

The highlight of the bike for me was the transmission and clutch. Just wanted to have the bike and drive it home.

The fellow who rode the bike before me said the belt drive was noisy [a bmw and gold wing rider] but it didn't bother me. I didn't quite understand how belt drive could make noise anyways.

Yamaha treated test riders well, free hotdogs, drinks and a gift bag [a t-shirt, cap, protective lip-stick or whatever you call them].

If I had to choose the Vstar 1300 or the C90, I'd go for the Vstar, I think. [I test rode the C90 at Motorcycle World in Surrey this season and found the clutch and tranny very lousy].

Bob, hope you'll like the shift lever bushing, keep us posted.

Cheers.

Thanks for the comparison.

I am happy with the C50SE, although prices have dropped since I bought.
Could not find a T in stock and had a time finding a dealer with a price I could live with.

Did you find any C109T's or SE's to try?
Best bet is prob. Orca Suzuk.
Gateway told me no demand, Holeshot said they had 1 brought in for customer.
Sounds like nobody was listening to customers.

Hi Bob,

I'm happy with my C50 also. I just like to sample other bikes. I'm not upgrading or buying another one any time soon.

Hey, by the way, there will be a demo day at Trev Deely's on October 19,

Default Some vibration

Hello Westcoast Riders,

I was on Hiway 1 this morning, had to go 100 - 110 kph. There's some vibration on the handle bars, even the view on the mirrors become fuzzy. Is this normal?

Thanks

I have been a little north of that several times, the unclear mirror was noticeable, the bars were fine.

How is your tire pressure and tire balance?
I have ISO grips, are you using stock?

I would not compare the 50's ride with my old Wing at the upper speeds.
A 60's Beetle and a Caddie.

160 km on a rougher road was not a problem on the 50.

Haven't been on in a while. Thought I'd check in. I see there's some activity in this old thread. You been out much?
I was in the cage today and stopped by Western on the bypass. I put in an order for engine guards which will take a few days.
Last week I put Supertrapp exhaust on my Vmax. Sure makes a difference. A little too loud though. Fortunately I can tune this one and make it a little quieter.
Been really enjoying the new bike so far. Have you been on any long rides this summer yet?

Good to hear from you Darren.

No long rides, just grab the chance when the Wife and Weather allow.
I managed to get out 4 days last week.
Looks like I will be around the 5,000 km like last year.
Down from the 15,000 km per year.

It was easier to get out while the wife worked.
As she does not ride the car is the means of getting about.
My youngest just got his Harley on the road 2 weeks ago.
We have not ridden together since last year.

Hows the family doing?

We are all doing really well.
My oldest is graduated now. She'll be moving to Hawaii at the end of August...not permanently though.
Sarah's doing some training down in Georgia for a few days, and then over to Texas for four more, so it's been a little quieter around here.
I did manage to get out fishing for some sockeye on the Fraser on the day the DFO closed the river down (for sockeye). Picked up 3 nice ones.
Hoping for another sockeye opening in the coming weeks.

Would you be up for a ride in the coming weeks? PM me with your new # if you want to head out.

Take care Bob.
Darren.

Default Recent Day Trips

Me and my lady rode to Steveston Village (great fish 'n chips at the end of the walk path, the same area where fishermen sell daily catch off the boats) and Cultus Lake last week. The pub at the lake entrance serves good [read large] burgers.

Hey Elvis

If you took the long way to Cultus you rode right past me and did not let me know!!!

If you head south on 176 St., take a left on to 0 Ave just before the customs and then the jog around the 264th st crossing, you are almost at my place.
carry on till the end of 0 Ave which will take you north to Huntington, turn right on to it, carry on east it becomes Vye, cross over #11 on Vye, the end of Vye turns north, at the first Sop sign turn right, follow the rod it will turn North, at the next Stop sign turn right, the road will turn north again stay on it till you come to Central Blvd, which will take you through Yarrow, stay on that road till you hit Cultas Lake turn off.

The Deli on the right in Yarrow is used by lots of riders.

If you stay on the road past the Cultas turn off you will ride through Vedder and then through Chilliwack and if you stay to the right and on to Old Yale Road east, you can ride through Rosedale and over to Aggazzi and then back on #7 through Mission and then Coquitlam and then home.

Good morning Bob,

My apologies. My wife was riding with me, we made 300+ kms (round trip) that day and it was almost dark when we got home, should've started earlier.

If we met, I think we'd start a never ending bike talk and I know that would annoy my lady big time.

Cultus Lake ride is one of my favourites, we can meet at the Deli or other place next time and perhaps we could ride other nice country roads in your area. (Did you hear about the incident in Agasiz?)

Take it easy.

Darren (Atlas6 is talking about a ride, perhaps we can get together.

we have managed to get 4 from this site before but job and family come first.
Boston has mentioned trying to get together but have not heard from him for a while.

Being a retired old fart my time is mine, unless the wife is looking over my shoulder. So if you are ever up for a ride, just call or e-mail.

Thanks for the reminder Elvis. Would have liked to attend, but unfortunately I'm on day shift tomorrow. If you go, make sure to snap lots of pics to share.
