Default Engine Guards...

I am looking to have engine guards put on my bike. I have a 2005 C50 LE, which has floor boards already on the bike.
My question is do I need to find an engine guard that is larger, to go over the floor boards, or is any engine guard which fits the C50 OK???????
Or...is there a particular engine guard that is better to get than another?

Hey Exit63; Don't know if this will help but, I have a 2005 C-90T and just installed the Suzuki engine guards and they look great. They do not bother my floorboards at all.

Default engine guards

The nice thing about the OEM is they are wide enough to protect but do not interfere with the look as much as some of the aftermarkets. There are sites that discount OEM.I got mine for 30% off when my local dealer was running a special.

exit 63, I got Cobras for my '06 C50 and had no problem installing with the floorboards. i got the guards indicated for the c50.

As the floorboards are standard on the c50, I would think any makers engine guards are going to be ok, SO LONG AS THEY ARE SPECIFICALLY FOR THE C50.

I think the more important question is what are you looking for in your engine guards? If it's a specific look your going for, then the Suzuki guards may be the guards for you. If it's protection (for you and the bike) you may consider an aftermarket brand as the Suzuki guards are a little small.

GOOD LUCK!

My C50 with Cobra bars and Iso pegs

OEM bars IMHO are too small, my dealer doesn't recommend them.

Nice bars Taz......I think they look great, especially with the pegs you have installed on them. One question...is that the OEM light bar on your bike? If so, have you had any problems with it? I am considering adding a light bar and crash bars to my C50T. Thanks

That is the OEM light bar, had no trouble for 6 months then both bulbs blew out within 1 day of each other. I replaced both bulbs with GE 4411 sealed beams (NAPA) carries them. tight fit but no more problems.

I like my MCE crash bars. I wanted crashbars that would protrect the gas tank in case of a tipover, and the OEMs are just too small to do that. I used the MCE bar made for the Volusia, not the C50, and I had to use some washers as spacers to clear the floorboards. They didn't have a C50 model back then in '04 when I bought the bike.

My advice is to stay away from the OEM engine guards if tip over protection is what you want them for. The OEM guards are too small to protect anything except maybe the jugs in the event you lay it down.

I have the MCEs and a lot of folks swear by the Cobras but almost all shy away from the OEMs.

Someone else can clarify the mounting on the Cobras but with the MCEs the top mounts bolt into the existing holes for the OEM guards and the bottom uses the same bolt holes (with longer bolts) as the front floorboard mount.

Taz,

Thanks for the picture, it is worth a hundred words. I will look into the Cobras with the ISO pegs over the stock. I like the extra protection. Clint

I bought the Cobra guards and love them. They took about 15 minutes to install. I purchased them at: http://www.oneidasuzuki.com/store/cu...cat=320&page=4

Default OEMs are too small.

I agree with the OEMs being too small. I ordered them when I ordered my bike without doing the research and they dont really protect anything like I thought the would. Here is a pic of them.

Default Lindby ????

First...I would like to thank you all who posted comments....I had no idea that there were so many choices!
Before I came in here, I almost just purchased the OEM guards...from here, I seemed to like the Cobras. As I continued to look, I saw the Lindby guards...and seemed to like them the best!
Does anyone know anything about these?????????
Thanks again!
Paul

Well they are about $ 120 more then the Cobra's at Oneida, Although they have built in pegs, I question if there will be a vibration issue on you feet since there is no rubber to isolate it. I am not a fan of there hard angled look.

Just my 2c

Hi, I am glad to see Exit ask about the Lindby bars. I like their looks as well and was wondering if anyone here has a pic of those installed on a 1600Maurader/Meanstreak? Good luck on your choice Exit. Have fun.

I bought the OEM because they didn't give the "Elephant Ears" look, but those Lindby ones look great!

If you don't like the OEM's, put them up for sale, and buy the ones you want.

To those out there with a C50 and Cobra bars, I need to know what the overall width is from outer edge to outer edge of the bars with these attached. This will determine if I have to move the steps on the back deck.
