Default Is this normal for my New M50?

I normally park my bike in first gear for safety, then shuts off the engine by kickstand. I found out it's difficult to change to neutral before start the engine (my Honda VLX is very easy). After engine start it becomes very easy to change. Is this normal?

Mine doesn't do that. It goes into first just as easily off as on.

That happens with my M95 when I forget to put it in neutral.

It may depend on how new your bike is or how it was broke in. I had this problem in the first 500 miles, but soon after things smoothed out. I believe it's likely a break in issue.

I agrre with Red...1st 1000 miles my bike at stop lights wouldn't go into neutral sometimes and I would have to push it forward or back a little to get it to drop into gear. After about 1000 limes no problems any more just have to get things used to running, that's all.

I will have to agree with Red and Slim Pickins mine was the same way now have 7,000 + miles and works fine. I normally start mine then put into neutral and I never use the kick stand to turn off, I always hit kill switch turn key then put down stand this is just my preference.

I agree with the break in issue. After my first oil change and a little "Marvins Mystery Oil" added to the oil my gear changes have improved dramatically!

While running, no problem. Going to neutral without the engine running most often have to rock it, any type of incline magnifies this.

No transmission is designed to shift while not running. It's quite common for them to be sticky while not running and when attempting to shift multiple gears at a stop. Other factors include age of tranny (as mentioned), condition of oil and type of oil. Go to a synthetic after break-in and all will be heavenly.

I thought this was determined by how your gears are aligned when you come to a stop, not due to break in....the same effect as shifting into neutral before you're fully stopped and then you can't pop it into first again unless you roll forward or backward or let out the clutch some. Am I wrong?

Nope, that's exactly right. In a bike tranny, you aren't actually aligning gears, but gears and "dogs", or pins that slide into the side of a gear. It's even more fussy than two gears.

Ya, I noticed this when I would shift into neutral at stops... I would have to let the clutch out, then engage it again then it would drop into 1st without a problem.
