Default How r u dealing with the Speed limit...?

Godday all 2gether...

I am a 34 year old German (nothing wrong with that...) and love riding my 1200 Bandit... Most bikers here in Germany dont like riding the german "Autobahn" because after a little while (10 min max) its getting boring ... But its a good way to reapprove the incredable speed of your Bandito and to create a big grin on your face when the Porsche's and stuff give up in the right lane... So we were talking about you people in beautyfull America riding high power Suzuki Bikes....Are you risking the speed ticket once every blue moon or do you race within limits, just faster...? Thx for you answers in advance... By the way... if you planning comming over for a...lets say speed week, including legally racing the highway and other goodies, let me know.

Best regards
Andy

Default hey

I have a bunch of friends in Germany right now. I don't ride yet, so i know i'm no fun... although i'm new to the forum, i am awake (watching American football, cowboys vs. steelers), so dont think no one wanted to respond to you. Be safe out there, and in the areas that do have a speed limit, I hope you don't get caught as you willfully ignore them!

Hiya Tom,
In America we call that "rubbing their faces in it".

Yes, we have no Autobahn. I suppose we could all move to Montana, but that's sort of out of the question.

Here's how I deal with it: I've been around me long enough to know how easy it is to get lost in the excitement of a powerful bike - so - I don't own powerful bikes.

1.) I get to walk without crutches.
2.) I get to keep my license.
3.) I get to breathe without the aid of life support.
All of that usually means I get to ride tomorrow. You could say it's a boring life, but whenever I'm riding, I'm NOT bored.

All that being said, I'd LOVE to have a 'busa, if just for a week.

I tend to try to stay at or near the speed limit. I can't afford a speeding ticket and the increase in my insurance.

Every once in a while I like to open 'er up. But mostly I like a low speed (45 to 55) cruise on a country road with curves and hills.

Speaking of the Autobahn, were you around when Daimler tested the ne Chrysler Crossfire? I sell them here in the states.

Mike

Well, in the province of Quebec,Can, most drivers seem to pride themselves on being the absolute worst in north america if not the worst in the world short of France.

Speed limits are strictly enforced ( NOT! ), well maybe a couple of days a year ! The only place where you're pretty much garanteed of a ticket is in school zones.

Our provincial police ( equivalent to your state troopers ) have received orders not to engage in pursuit any motorcycle speeding at an extremely high rate of speed.

Maximum speed limit on highways is 100km/h or 63 mph. Cops won't even bother unless you're over 140km/h or 87 mph. Thats if there's one around. And over 160km/h or 100mph they break off chase.

Of course I would never exceed speed limit ( Yah right !, drive at speed limit and you'll get run over ).

But I wouldn't try this in Quebec if I didn't have Quebec plates ( you've been warned ! ).

Here in Florida, you can count on having a cop around anywhere you go these days. Our roads here in Orlando are getting so crowded and dangerous that they are out in force. The only time you can really open up your babe is real late at night or when you are riding in a SMALL group where they really wont mess with ya.

dang, you guys have some of the best laws. You can street race legally? I'm not advocating it at all, but if you are out on the roads ALONE, then thats pretty fun.

Default How R U Dealing with the speed limit

When I lived in the North Eastern part of America I found that the best way to enjoy a nice fast cruse 80 - 90 mph was to get on the road just at sunrise when most everyone else is having a cup and get yer blood flowing for an hour or so. there are many wonderful hiways in rural sections that do not get much traffic in the early mornings particularly on the weekends and thus not too much police patroling either.

Uhhhh.... I go the speed limit sometimes.... OH COMEON IM 16.... I CANT HELP GOING A LITTLE OVER . The fastest I been was 108 on my 01 Volusia racing my Club member in is 90 Corvette down a open strech of 55mph 2lane road. It was almost safe... But most the time I stay close to the speed limit. But I open it up quite often when someone revs at me and I deside to tear them a new hole.

I dont understand what I did wrong officer.. 108 in a 55.. Are you serious!! Hehe, thats awsome

Take it easy we want to keep you around a little longer.

BTW Volusia speedos are notorious for being inaccurate they usually display 5 to 12 mph faster than you're actually going. Doubt you actually made it to 100 if it's stock. Still plenty fast in a get off.

Default Speeding

I tend to stay close to speed of traffic around me. Yes this means I speed when every one else is doing it, just so I don't get mowed down. My VS800 does well. I found that even at 80 mph fully loaded with windsheild and full face helmet I am getting 53 mpg.
I keep hearing about other not getting those milage figures. I concider myself lucky. I love this bike more each day.

I love these freudian slips!

I get to open up my motorcycle all the time, frequently cruising close to top speed for many miles. Not much of a trick when the bike won't do over 70mph...

Actually Montana does have speed limits. It is 75 on the interstate and 70 on two lane highways. I should know, I got my first speeding ticket there (in my car) back when I was 17 because I thought, "Its Montana, its vacation time, open road ahead, time to fly." I was clocked at 92 in a 75 zone. Fine was $40.

For my motorcycle, I'm in the same group as tlwisner. GZ250's makes it hard to speed. Also, I can live without getting anymore tickets.

I try to go the limit but have found that hard to do. I just like to accelerate! Probably not the best thing but hey, I have a ridin bell. I've had 8 bikes over the years and no matter how hard i try, i sometimes just blast off. How do i deal with it? I try to keep a close eye out for smokies. I like the phrase " Ride it like youo stole it! " My advice, keep the shiny side up and never ride over you experience level and don't do like me.

Speed Limits are more like general guide lines IMHO.

Well out this way in AUS sometimes you don't see the police for days ( i live about 750kms from the nearest city ) so i can travel at what ever speed i like but in saying that i usually stay in the 120-130 kms range.
