| What bike do you have? that would be a pretty important piece of information if you want to geet an answer. I have built, owned, and ridden several choppers, and the handling depends on the trail angle, which depends on how much rake you have, what size front tire you have, how long your forks are, etc. Again, I'd need to know what bike you have.

| If you add a 5-degree raked triple tree and keep your stock forks, you will lower the front of your bike about 1 3/4 inches. Lower the back the same amount with some Progessive shocks and the bike will sit level. The front end will be lighter at low speeds, but there will not be a huge change in handling. Your wheelbase will increase by 2-3 inches. The big thing to watch is cornering: with the bike being lowered you will loose ground clearance and thus lean angle. Alternately you could add 4-inch over forks and keep the ride height the same, which will push the front wheel out another 2-3 inches but make the handling very light (the front wheel will want to flop to the side at low speed). You'll easily get used to it though. Figure another $200 for the extended forks, plus seals & dust covers, and labor if you can't take your stock forks apart and put the factory fork lowers on the extended forks yourself.

I just didnt know how far out the wheel will be. so Dr. BOB you are saying that i can get a total of 4 to 6 inches??? 2 to 3 with the triple tree and then another 2 or 3 if i do the fork extentions??? or just a total of 2 to 3 inches? i do have a pic of my bike as i bought it stock. i will try to link it or put it here on fourm. this will be the only pic i will show til it is done this spring. i have done right at 2 grand of customizing. i will rake change bars, put custom fenders and paint it still. the next pick will be finished product... I WANNA THANK EVERYONE THAT IS HELPING ME WITH MY BIKE.... THANK YOU AND MAY THE LORD BLESS http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...0/DSCF0505.jpg Last edited by ICE77; 11-01-2005 at 07:43 PM. |

| I'd say with the 4-inch overs and the triple tree you'd get about 4-5 inches total. 5-degrees of rake...must be the Rizoma triple tree, right? The Seeger tree only has 4 degrees of additional rake. The Rizoma one is sold under various brand names... Is it the whole kit, or just the triple tree for $425? The raked triple tree also moves the forks further apart, so you don't just need the triple tree & clamps, you also need the wider axle, the caliper spacer, and the disk spacer, so this is no bargan if you don't have the whole kit. Fork extensions are an acceptable substitute for extended forks with only the 4-inch increase, and that will save you about $100 over extended forks. Anything over 4 inches and you need the actual forks. If you add the fork extenders, you will need a longer brake hose and clutch cable also, unless you go with really narrow drag bars to move the controls in five inches or so on each side. might as well upgrade to a stainless brake line if you need longer ones, for better looks and performance for about the same money as OEM rubber lines. You can make your stock fender work by spreading it a little, or you can make some spacers easily enough. While you have it torn down anyways, you might want to replace the 7-year old crappy stock fork springs with some progressive ones, about $65 and worth every penny. The ride improves remarkably, and handling will be greatly improved with some progressive 412 or 418 shocks out back. For you Marauder owners with an itch to customize, Scootworks has their kit to convert to a wide belt drive on sale for about 30% off, $469 instead of $669. Get one now...we all know what "while supplies last" means.

| Well, the description doesn't say it, but the photo shows the other parts you need, so I think that is a good deal. Custom parts for the Marauder are being radically reduced in price right now, as aftermarket companies clear out their invintory. They figure that since Suzuki cancelled the bike a couple years ago the market for Marauder parts is going to dry up very soon. The belt drive is quieter, cleaner, you don't need to lube it, and it looks cool. But you loose the ability to change sprockets, so if performance is your goal you might want to stick with the chain. If you are after 'show quality looks', the belt might be for you.

| Can't wait to see what the bike looks like when it is done! A word of caution though: no matter how much you do to it, the title will still say 1999 Suzuki Marauder. In other words, you are never going to get your money back on the accessories. But if it makes you happy, and you aren't spending the rent money, go for it!

| If you could get some pics up of the project "post-forking/raking", I'de really appreciate it also! I'm thinking of doing the same thing to my ride and any info you could provide would be awsome! I ride a 98' Marauder and she's a beautiful bike, but it takes some tweaking to make it look tough. I also enjoy the "custom bike" look and have done a few mods to give my bike the custom appeal that gets the onlookers looking on... ![]() --chopped up the back fender, dropped the signals back to my sissy support bars, wired up an LED brake light under fender (soon to be LED rope lighting), threw on some Vance&Hines pipes, and side mounted my license plate.-- ![]() --chopped front fender, custom built projector headlamp system, dropped badges, sanded out two-tone cream/red tank, slapped on a fresh coat of "stealth bomber" flat black paint.-- There's more mods I wanna do like, rake it, new seat, front air-dam, under-tank LED "sex lights" AKA: ground effects, drop the ass a touch and maybe do some custom air-brushing on the tank... I'll be sure to post up pics when those wishes become realities. Send me ideas of stuff you wanna do to your rides and maybe I can come up with some new mods for my own! cheers, --p1zl3-- |
