Default Want/need a back rest (M50)

Fellow bikers, I need advice. I am looking for a backrest (sissybar) for my 05 M50. I have searched several sites, and the prices seem outrageous. At my local shop, the mounting hardware is only 10.00 less than the bar itself. Most places (excluding my local shop) want nearly 200.00 for the bar, and upwards of about --- 139.00 for the hardware. I have seen a few on Ebay for 172.00, that included hardware, but am wary of them due to the rather high prices found everywhere else.

Does anyone have any feedback to offer concerning one they have/like. I am looking for a taller rather than a shorter one, so maybe that is why the prices seem slightly out of line. Perhaps I have spent to much time on my XR650, and just need to accept the fact that cruisers are more expensive to upgrade.

Get used to it. Accessories are over priced.

i got lucky and found my billet for 81 bucks..hehe. But yea it's hard to find a good deal. I have a pretty good relationship with my dealer as well as a local custom shop so I good deals and alot of help with parts.

I'm pretty sure that the OEM Billet is really just a Jardine, so you might have more luck searching for a jardine that fits it.

Check out some of the threads where people installed the backrests on their M50's and see what brand they used. Then just price shop and see who will match or beat prices then plot them against each other.

i think a shorter one would look better on the M....at least the medium, not the tall. but of course comfort is the first priority so thats your call

i didnt realize they were that much! man, if this new woman works out and wants to ride with me, i'm going to have to take up a collection from you guys to get one! haha

Thanks Mavman. That is in my price range. I emailed them for specifics (height mainly). I'll keep you guys posted once I decide which one I am getting, just in case someone else wants one.

I picked one up from www.scootworks.com for my M50. I chose the shortest one available, just didn't want the wife to feel like she was falling off every time accelerated.....Good service, fit perfect. They have some taller ones also

that scootworks one looks good...seems to be aboput the right height for my preference too....

if i ever need one (ie if i ever land a long term relationship (ie more than a month) with a woman that wants to ride) i'll look into that one. but damn, $260, might have to rely on EBay

you bet........BUT like mentioned, seems like the more spent the better the quality, just depends on the amount ya want to spend and/or the deal ya can get.
