Default Eye protection

My wife told me that if I quit smoking I could buy a motorcycle, so the next day I quit and last Wednesday I bought an '05 C50 Limited. I am having lots of fun with it, but I need to pick up some sort of eye protection. What is the best to get? For daytime riding is amber or clear better? I wear a helmet, but I am not into the full face thing.

What helmet do you have? You're looking for visors or glasses/sunglasses?

for daytime use tinted glasses/goggles (whatever your preference, but with a helmet, i would suggest glasses as the goggle strap and a helmet get annoying)

for night either clear or amber...my friend doesnt own clear and uses amber at night...he says it is fine.

some glasses have interchangeable lenses with all three lenses coming with the kit...those are cool, but i cant find a pair that fit me well.

the bottom line is "they have to fit your face so no air gets in your eyes"...never mind about looks or accesories....if they dont fit your face well, you will have air and sand getting in your eyes.

I went to the local HD shop and for less than $30 I got a pair that has interchangable lenses (clear, amber & sunglass) and a strap that clicks into the "arm" of the glasses to make them into goggles. This is good for longer rides at high speed so you are not constantly pushing the glasses back on to your nose.

i have worn tinted glasses since i started riding...never have a problem with them falling off, have to get a set that fits right. glasses allow better breathing too, so your eyes dont get all "sweaty" and feel like they need air. but goggles offer better (usually) protection since they have more foam and fit tighter....

but like i said, glasses all the time for me and no problems. 7500 miles later...

Are you and your wife speaking to one another??.....I did the same thing-(quit cigs-smoked for 26 years/buy cycle)...

First day-(ok I can do this).......second evening-(wife-"evening dear", my reply-grumble, grumble, grumble)......3rd morning-( no speaking )...later she asked about supper plans that night and I said "to tell ya the truth I DON'T want any food, I want tobacco-(please, please, please)........well, I'm back to smoking again.

You must have better will power than I.....good for you.

I use tinted and clear safety glasses when I ride. The cost $ 3.50 each and they have no distortion at all.

I have those and use the clear ones in the morning before dawn and the tinted ones in the afternoon with the sun shining brightly. They are excellent glasses for very little money. The foam around the edges keeps dust and various other things out of my eyes even with the visor up or wearing the 3/4 helmet.

There's good eye protection on a full face helmet. Is that better, Doug?

No one is "into the whole full-face thing" until they try it. It takes a few hours before you're used to it, so don't give it five minutes then trash the idea. Once you're used to wearing one, you'll never go back.

not sure what to tell you on the eye protection ... I'm a full-face and sunglasses kind of guy. But man, that is a sweet deal you got on the bike .... my GF is trying to get me to quit .... and i kinda want a boat .... hmmmmm.

i do notice that with the shield up and glasses on the wind still comes around the galsses and sometimes gets dirt in my eyes (which sucks, of course) .... goggles or something that seals around your eyes would probably be a good idea.

Rowdy, i currently own a shoei x-11 full face that ran me $600.00, and I actually prefer the half helmets in the summers, in NC the humdity can get up there, no i know that the pavement is hotter than the helmet, buy seriously, no one ever wakes up and thinks, today im going down on my bike! Additionally, knowing that the extra protection can add piece of mind. But if i was worried about protection, i wouldnt ride a bike.
