I have removed the baffles already but I don't like the way they stick out past the fender.

mavman HATED his after he cut them down. he posted som pics and although they lined up and the top one wasnt past the tire anymore, it looked WAY too short and kinda ugly.

he instantly replaced his pipes with aftermarket.

see post #155 on in this thread

he knew he had cobras coming so did this.

DA$$...The ONE day couldn't be here-(I hate work and want to win the lottery ....

Ok, let's tie up loose ends.

I debaffled, wasnt' happy and had and still DO NOT HAVE enough money for aftermarket pipes or fi unit-(think human baby and wife). So I started tinkering with them. I cut the top pipe back even with the lower one.

Postives---(1)--For me, it doesn't look bad. and that's where it ends.

I tried to convince myself otherwise, but I was WRONG, so here are the negatives.

1) Loss of low end "getty up", not tons, I feel I've gained some back after disconnecting/connecting the battery, BUT NOT MUCH.

2) Keep in mind I debaffled, SO I have ended up putting a nut and bolt threw the top exhaust to keep the guts from coming out.

3) LOUD-I pulled into a MC accessories shop a few days ago and after pulling into the parking lot from out of a blind spot...a gentleman on a HD tells his friend that he thought I was on a Harley until he seen the bike , no offence HD owners, but I don't want to sound like a HD.

4) Yes you could cut further, BUT how much....if your talking about hacking the big cans off....it's only gonna be LOUDER-(someone else can chime in concerning other issue's if that's the case).

So PLEASE don't do it.....I'm living in misery with what I've done and I don't want to see someone else live my nightmare.

Pinhy, The first thing I was gonna get was cobra drags and thundermonster baffles, BUT decided against that after being informed of horsepower loss and so on.....I'm diggin' the pipes that others have-(I'm currently following everybody's reviews).....and I'm happy that they are happy.

I'm still interested in the cobra street rods that Tim posted and you mentioned calling them about. In another thread you mentioned possibly coming back with them from biketoberfest. That's where I'm still at...

I'm still holding out for reviews and such on those for looks and horsepower.

I am no rocket scientist...but what if you shortened the pipe on the top one before it went into the can...if you moved it forward they may line up on the back end. Take some torch work..but should keep all the exhaust metrics the same....

Any thoughts??

i still have a small interest in those, but i doubt i will find them in Daytona and switch. no way to keep my stock that way either (unless i strap them to my back for the ride home! haha). those do kinda look like nice fat straights, and i bet they sound good too. having the crossover is key.

we'll see what happens with me and pricing on the Jardines i am now interested in. im leaning that way.

I like the sound debaffled but I don't like the pipe sticking out, so If I do anything its shorting the top pipe. Thanks for the help and advise Ill tell you what happens next.

I talked with a welder/machinist today concerning shortening of the stockers..he agreed with ya ddarais. He said it be pretty simple if the heat shields are clamped on......just a little more work if not.....ie re wield the heat shields back on if they are spot wielded on to begin with.

just thought I'd share what he said.
