Default Need some advice on lowering my 04 Intruder vs800

Hi,
I'm new to this forum so first let me say hello. I decided to learn to ride last May. I went shopping for a bike that I could touch the ground on. Since I am only 4'11" that was a challenge.
At 1st I started looking at all the 250's I could find but everytime I would look at one the salesman would say "Oh you don't want a 250, you will outgrow it too fast" so heeding their advise I bought an 04 Suzuki Intruder. I took the MSF basic riders course. (twice)
Anyway to make a long story as short as possible....I love the bike but when I would stop on uneven ground I would drop the bike, broke both rear turn signals. I was losing my confidence, my legs were bruised from the knees down. I think I spent more time under it than on it
so I went back to a different dealer and bought a Virago 250, I now have almost 3,000 miles on this bike and want to ride my Intruder but really feel even more like I need to lower it.
I need to do this as inexpensively as possible so any info on how to do this would be appreciated

Let me try to find the links to John's lowering kit, i think you can lower it up to 3" will that be enough for you? You could prob also replace the seat, I believe the stock gel seat will give you another inch too-

No fun to have the bike fall on you!!!

from the VR forum

Due to the response for my lowering kits during the April Special of $25 ($27 Through Pay Pal) for members, I am going to continue the special price until the end of July for members of this forum. This price includes Priority Shipping in the USA.
Update: I am continuing this price through the end of Sept.!

i had a friend cut my lowering straps for me...using m50_hooligans sketch (attached). the only thing is, the dimensions are based on the M50, not an intruder. so not sure how long yours will need to be. they are not that hard to remove/replace so you could remove one and measure, then make some (if you have access to a saw/drill) out of a metal plate you can buy at home depot.

Where would I get a stock gel seat from? The price is right on the lowering kit from John's but will if fit my Intruder? The website says for Volusa? I guess maybe specwise they are close if not the same bike?????

Default Try Intruder Alert Forum. Tons of lowering info.

Try this forum http://www.intruderalert.com/

The hot setup is progressive rear shocks and front springs. Be prepared to spend about $400 to do it. Some guys have their shocks cut down but the limited travel combined with soft OEM shocks causes bottoming out.
