Default Riding in the Wind?

I will be moving to Cheyenne, WY soon, and I hear the wind can kick your @$$. Has anyone out there rode during really high winds? My C-50 isn't that heavy, and I am a little worried about being blow off by a cross wind . Currently I have a Memphis Fats windshield, will that make it worse?.

Try riding a 325 pound bike (my previous bike), your on a 550 pound bike, you have no worries.

You have to learn to ride the gusts out and not fight them. Expect to move around your lane a bit and stay relaxed.

+1

Don't grab the handlebars with a deathgrip. Keep to the side of the lane that will give you the most room to move also.

I.E. If the wind is gusting or pushing you to your left, try to stay on the right hand side of the lane so a gust won't blow you into the next lane.

I like the way the bike sways when the wind blows!!! It is like riding in a swing at 75 miles an hour. I just let the bike lean. When the wind pushes me to the left (from my point of view) I lean right,, when the wind blows to the right,, I lean left.

Of course I do have a heavy beast of a bike.

Squeeze the tank with your knees.

Best thing to do is ride to your abilities and your bike's capabilities... If the wind is too strong, there's no need to move at the posted speed limits.

Slow down, ride in the middle of the lane, you'll naturally lean into the wind if it's a cross wind, be aware of the surroundings which will tip you off for gusts, watch for gusts when riding through cut outs, where the highway has been cut through a small hill. Mainly, just relax and take your time. It won't be the greatest ride you've ever had but it isn't that big a deal.

An 18 wheeler already gives you a rush??? Man, that's weak... (just kidding). As long as you stay away from their blind spots...

An 18 wheeler comes and goes and you can see it coming. Wind gusts surprise and can stay steady. Not sure that I like the sway! Guess the leaning into the wind just comes with practice. As usual I always need more practice.

The C50 is low, that helps a lot. It's weight is fine. As somebody above said, pressing your knees into the tank stabilizes your bike well in a crosswind. After a while, you don't even give it much thought.

Funny this post is up, I just came back from a windy ride. I just stayed with the bike through the sway, it was fun to tell you the truth.

You guys are sick! I hate the wind for riding. Yeah! I am a chicken %%%%%. I hope all my rides are less than 10 mph wind speed!. I hope the only breeze is me and my bike!

ive had a couple cross winds that made it feel like it was blowing the wheels out from under me...kinda makes the booty clench the first couple times, then you get used to it.

My understanding is that the windshield acts like a sail. This makes the bike swerve more than a bike without one.

I have noticed that my son-in-law was "unmoved" by the wind (he had no windshield) while I was all over my lane.

When my wife is on the back with me, the wind has no noticeable affect on the handling.
