Question Savage/S40 Shock Setting

Anyone willing to share their experience setting the rear shock on a LS650 (Savage), S40 or S50? Detailed instructions would be appreciated. I have the Clymer book and it seems to leave some details out. For instance, do the shocks have to be decompressed and tricks for doing it if needed. Also, the notches for the setting are not visible. Are the changes made by feel only? All suggestions and help appreciated. Thanks!!!

we did the c50 this weekend, it was simple enopugh, remove the cover and the toolbox and twist the 'thingy' with the big wrench (LOL, technical huh?)

PM Uncle Bob or Louis and see if they can change the threads title to "Savage/LS650 Shock Help Needed". That might get you a few more hits.

From what most bikes I have been told that have the adjustable shocks they are "Usually" a ratcheting up motion with a sharp drop back to the start. They are tight to click up in the notches (by feel) and once you reach the highest point they usually drop back to the full extended position. Bee careful if yours is one of those systems because the quick drop can bust your knuckles since it is in essence the compressed spring getting released all at once.

Default Shock Setting Information Found

Thanks for the advice. The other forum had good information and some good pictures too. (http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB...num=1116292703) I made the adjustment to the shock and will try it out tomorrow. It was on the second setting and now it is on the fourth setting. Makes sense once you do it. Thanks again!!!

i dont think i will ever get used to seeing just one cylinder on a bike! very different look.

glad you got it figured out. the higher setting should help handling.

I have my Savage 650 set on the firmest setting this gives me the heighest ride hight and allows for a smoother ride at highway speeds. How that you ask? My bike was hitting the the bump stops at highway speeds , somthing you dont want to happen. lol
I dont take the cover off to change settings though
